Is Masterchef dead?
« on: July 12, 2025, 06:36:07 PM »

I see the Beeb are currently trying to decide if they should screen the latest series of Masterchef as it was recorded with Gregg W. I feel so sorry for the contestants if it isn't shown as they obviously work very hard and many have changed careers as a result of their experience.
As to GW's autism "diagnosis" and refusal to go quietly  :D

Can't stand the bloke but I think it's a difficult one whether to show the latest series or not.

John Torode's in trouble now for saying something that he has no recollection of saying - don't they all try that one?.

Whether it will survive as a programme or not I don't know but I personally wouldn't miss it if it ended.

We don't watch but I think that it should be shown.  All the pre-filming/cooking angst by the competitors needs an outlet and they went into the programme probably without knowledge.

As for the 'autism' idea, most of us are on the spectrum in some way or another!  I worked for the NAS many years ago and my work mate would often say "That was autistic" to something that I said  ::).  Obsessive yes ;-)

I think it should be shown because the contestants took time out of their lives and put a lot of work into their dishes. It's not like some of the reality shows where the only requirement is to remove clothing!!

He's got a few shows so I guess he'll have to go back to actually cooking. He used to have a restaurant but not sure if he still does.

I reckon they won't show Masterchef now both presenters have been sacked. As you say, it's a real shame for the contestants though.

Torode's other show is on ITV with his wife, so it will be interesting to see if that also gets pulled.

It'll be very interesting to see what ITV does. Maybe they'll keep the show and replace him.

The new series of MasterChef, which was recorded before presenters Gregg Wallace and John Torode were sacked, will still be shown on BBC One and iPlayer, the corporation has announced.

The BBC said it had taken the decision "after careful consideration and consultation with the contestants".

In a statement, the broadcaster said: "MasterChef is an amazing competition which is life-changing for the amateur chefs taking part. The focus of it has always been their skill and their journey."

I hope they do some really careful editing or it will offend an awful lot of people seeing the presenters front and centre on the screen.

I'm pleased it's being shown because of the work the contestants have put in. I think they should show that pair apologising for their behaviour, especially Wallace apologising for using an autism diagnosis as an excuse, and their salaries for the series should be donated to appropriate charities.

It's good that the contestants get to showcase their recipes but I don't think there'll be any apologies. Neither of them think they've done anything wrong.

Agree  :'(  Hopefully they'll edit it to show very little of those idiots and focus on the contestants. Maybe even a voiceover?
