Hi all

I have suffered major depression since hitting menopause and am progesterone intolerant. Am vein treated for depression finally but still don’t have progesterone solution. My GP had recommended Slynd and I just wondered if anyone has experience of this especially if they are progesterone intolerant and have major depression.

Depression is awful.  Certainly hormones can cause it to be worse.  Dr Dalton, The National Association for Pre-menstrual Syndrome [NAPS] did a lot of research in the 1970s/80s.

MayB put the product name into the search box and read threads, make notes ;-).  Which AD has your GP suggested?

Slynd (drospirenone-only pill) is often better tolerated by those sensitive to progesterone, especially compared to older synthetic types. It has anti-androgenic and mild diuretic properties, which can help with bloating and mood for some, but not everyone reacts the same. Since you're already managing depression, it’s really smart to monitor any shifts closely. If you try it, maybe track mood changes with a journal or app and check in with your GP early and often. Also seconding the suggestion to search past threads, real-world feedback can be super helpful when navigating options like this.

It is the same progestin that is in Yaz or Yazmin birth control pills.

If you have been on these in the past this will give you an idea of how you are likely to respond.

It is definitely worth trying.

Another option for progestogen intolerant women is tibolone which is often overlooked.

Thanks so much everyone - i am so wary of trying it as just can’t tolerate the thought of anything else going wrong - it has taken so long to get anywhere near stable on ADs- this has just happened in last 2 weeks after a year of hell.
MY GP felt try this first then Jaydass if no good but I was wondering if Jaydass might be better first as more localised ?
I was on Dianette in my 20s for excessive hair growth and acne - it worked wonders on that but I wasn’t the best emotionally.

I’ve been on Slynd for 6 weeks and it’s been a game changer for me. I’m so grateful my GP suggested it.
I also couldn’t tolerate any of the progesterone HRT I tried. I’m on sertraline for depression and anxiety too.
The only side effect I’ve noticed is bloating but I think that is gradually getting slightly better so hoping it will ease off in a few months, but I’m willing to put up with it if not.
I’d definitely recommend trying it, 100%. Wishing you all the best xx

Thanks so much Magpie - I have been so nervous about doing this but will give it a go. Worse case scenario as my GP says is I can just stop taking it. I was under the Newson clinic and they didn’t even suggest it - am so grateful to my GP too who is the menopause specialist in the surgery - she has been more helpful than Newson ever were!
