Chin hairs and facial fuzz
« on: June 29, 2025, 05:00:21 AM »

Hi I am struggling with controlling my chin hairs and the facial fuzz is getting longer although not darker yet, I've been using a Lazer most days but when using it on my legs you have to shave first, it has worked on my legs. I don't have many hairs left but I refuse to shave my face or use a defuzzer as I know it will encourage more hairs, I pluck the really thick black hairs but there are getting too many and growing so fast, I have noticed that when ever I experience the dreaded night horrors  there will be new ones growing. I have to inspect and pluck everyday and it's so depressing. I can feel them like a mans whiskers. I don't like giving kisses to people now as I know they prick . I thought Lazer would help but no results yet. What advice do you ladies have?

Hi, what an annoying problem this is I agree! I shave my legs every night although I have always done this so not sure if they would be growing faster there or not. For my chin I can also feel them coming everyday, I use a face epilator that I bought from Amazon (about £5) and also carry a pair of tweezers in my car as I always seem to spot new hairs in my car interior mirror  ::) I literally do this daily so I understand your frustration. Could you get laser hair removal so it stops growing back altogether?

I'll debunk the myth that shaving etc. encourages more hairs.  Wrong.  Old wives tail.

Each hair has its own follicle which sprouts 1 single hair.  Occasionally but rarely there maybe two from the same but is unlikely.

See my thread 'My Chin!' - it's a common issue as we age.  I enjoy plucking my chin - DH calls it excavating.  Top lip was a problem since puberty, Mum would buy me cream to remove: when period was due, the area became darker so everyone knew  :-\ :'(

That's what it felt like anyway.

Gentle plucking with a good pair of tweezers, I also have a very small shaver ......... for the fuss that I am unable to reach on my cheeks: some really black which I can pull, some 'spots' always have a stiff white hair inside.  I can feel those by touch.  [how else  ::)]

I find it therapeutic ;-)

Lack of oestrogen is the culprit for this.
Your GP can give you HRT.

When I had some laser treatment in a salon on upper lip I was told to leave the hair growth so that the laser had the hair shaft to go down to the follicle. Once treated the hair would gradually fall away.
That was several years ago and it did make the growth sparser. Any now I just pluck.

Too much testosterone ;-) due to oestrogen levels dropping off.   Though being from a hairy family which is why I wear jeans and never in skirts/dresses  :-X :D
