Hi all,
I hope you are well. I feel like my HRT nurse is giving me wrong info. But maybe not?
I started HRT 3 months ago. Sequential Evorel 50 with Utrogestan 200mg day 15-26.
Before starting HRT I had very regular periods, 28-day cycles give or take a few days. Some small changes to the periods but they were still quite heavy etc.
Since starting HRT I had one bleed 7 days after the first progesterone cycle. Then 1 day of brown discharge in the second cycle, and no hint of a bleed since then, almost a month ago. Very sore boobs and pms symptoms and that's it.
I mentioned all this to the nurse for my 3 month review and she said that I'm the average age for menopause so the periods have probably stopped naturally. HRT doesn't cause periods to stop.
I'm very suspicious indeed about that. It seems rather a big coincidence that since starting HRT the bleeding has stopped when I was having regular, heavy bleeds before. I pointed out that it seems to be a drastic change and she said it's probably menopause.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? I'm very likely to now come off HRT to see where my body is at, once it readjusts.

OK, assuming you are not pregnant  ;D then it is possible that the hormone therapy may have affected your bleed pattern however I would agree with what the nurse said in that HRT of the type you are on is not usually potent enough to shut down a natural menstrual cycle.

It is also possible that you may have developed a hormonally active cyst which can disrupt bleed pattern.

Alternatively it may be because you are perimenopausal and your cycles are becoming irregular.

Either way, there is no medical need to have a bleed every month, and certainly no advantage to stopping beneficial treatment "just to see where you are".

It doesn't matter clinically - what are you going to do differently?

If you remain bleed free on your current treatment over another few months you could consider moving to a continuous regime.

Thank you. Yes that makes a lot of sense, and no I'm not pregnant! 😱
I was going to try coming off it as I'm really not sure how much it's helping. The jury's out. I also have generalised anxiety which overrides everything anyway. However, it's possible the HRT is taking some kind of edge off. So I may still try coming off for a few cycles then go back on it if I am in fact hit with some kind of avalanche 😱. Time will tell...But thank you for your wise words.

Highly unlikely you hit menopause at the exact time you started hrt. One missed bleed isn't at all unusual, neither is light or heavy, short or long bleeds in peri. I think it's most likely you'll bleed again. If you're having a long (or skipped) cycle of your own utro usually isn't strong enough to override your own hormones.

Thank you. I'm pretty sure I will as well. I am sure it is all perfectly normal, it's just a big change after having periods more or less like clockwork that you knew when to expect, to nothing! I'm sure I'll get used to it. Thanks again
