I’m interested in diet and how to reduce my Hashimotos antibodies. Currently I’m on NDT and just due to add in T3. Compared to before my thyroid is much improved but I’m not converting the T4 as well as I could. Unfortunately though I’m not seeming to be absorbing oestrogen from my HRT patch. My blood oestrogen levels are negligible at 18 and I have no testosterone so I’m not feeling great. I have some other autoimmune issues Raynuards and rosacea so I’m wanting to try improving my diet. Currently I don’t have much appetite currently but I do try not to eat rubbish. It just feels like what we should be eating now is so complicated! Any tips gratefully received. Thanks

Fizzwhiz apparently going gluten free is recommended for autoimmune diseases especially thyroid disease . I’m currently awaiting repeat blood tests for coeliac disease. Have you been tested for coeliac disease? NICE recommends those with autoimmune thyroid disease are tested for Coeliac disease as both common together. My GP did not offer to test I had to request it.
I’ve not had T3 tested . Does your GP test this ?

Yes gluten and dairy can cause issues. I’m reducing gluten but not gone gf. I’m half under NHS for thyroid in that they know my antibodies are sky high on their blood tests but as my other results are within range they’re observing me so I’ve gone private. Whether I could persuade them to do a coeliac test I’m not sure. Not sure how I obtain a private test.

Sorry I forgot to do the quote thing. No my GP won’t test for T3 but she referred me and NHS endo did but as it’s within range although very low according to them I may develop thyroid issues in the future! 🙈 I might request coeliac test but currently trying to get my oestrodial levels off the floor as well. Definitely worth exploring diet though!

I have been in 25mg dose of levothyroxine for 3 months. Had blood tests on Weds and my TSH has dropped from 6.9 to 4.9 range is 0.27 to 4.2zand T4 remains around 15. Range is 11- 22.
Back in 2010 my TSH was 1.83 so I’m guessing this is my normal level and what I should be aiming for?
Dr has added a note for PA to action which normally means a phone call to discuss results and treatment. I’m guessing my dose will be increased to 50 mg.
I also requested a full iron panel blood test as my ferritin hovers around mid 30s which isn’t great . But I’m not anaemic . Just want to check that my iron isn’t low before I do end up anaemic!

Hi I have posted on this thread previously in relation to an under-active thyroid due to autoimmune disease. I have been on 50mg dose of levothyroxine for 6 months. My recent blood test shows my TSH has shown that TSH has increased from 3.42 in January to 32! I have been taken my medication consistently and correctly. The highest my TSH was prior to medication was 6.9.
Dr wants to increase my dose to 100mg. I have suggested another blood test to rule out lab error and also test T4, ferritin, B12 and D3. Whilst these have been in range in the past I know they can impact absorption of levothyroxine.
Whilst these high TSH is likely to indicate that my thyroid is failing due to autoimmune disease I just want to be certain.
I do feel a bit tired at times but have noticed my mood is lower and anxiety worse in past 4-6 weeks. Brittle nails too. No other symptoms. I know 50mg is a low dose and that I would probably require a higher dose as my autoimmune disease progressed. I have recently moved house so been a stressful few months too !
Any thoughts or advice please?

Hi Elliebee, I'm sorry your post seems to have been missed.  I'm not on the forum much these days though as you know we do have several other hypothyroid members, but I guess no one has been around.  I'm sorry to know your TSH has increased quite a bit, but I think your GP is probably right that your Thyroxine dose needs to go up now.  No harm in checking the other bloods you asked for, but please don't be afraid to up your T4 dose as 50mcg is pretty low & often only used as a starting dose with the knowledge we are very likely to need more for the longer term.  If doubling to 100mcg in one step feels too daunting you could perhaps discuss with your GP going to 75mcg for a few weeks & retesting.

I hope things go well for you.

Meant to say Elliebee, 1.6mcg per kilo body weight is sometimes quoted as a guide to help calculate likely appropriate Thyroxine dose, but it will vary from person to person.

Thank you Wrensong. I spoke with another GP who has suggested upping my dose to 75mg and retesting in 6 weeks. She has agreed to test vitamin and iron levels too. She said it is likely I will need to increase dose to 100mg as my thyroid continues to fail due to the autoimmune disease .
I’ll work out dose based on that calculation too.
Thank you once again. Hope you are well.

Oh that's good Elliebee  :).  Glad you have agreed a plan with a GP you are comfortable with.  Please don't worry about whatever dose you may eventually need for optimal replacement.  The 6 week interval is good & should give your body time to register the change & produce meaningful results without too long a wait to adjust the dose again if need be.  All the best with it.
