Synarel and bleeding
« on: June 01, 2025, 08:13:45 PM »

I started Synarel in February alongside continuous HRT (100 Everol and 200 utrogestan) ahead of surgery.

However, since the end of April I’ve been bleeding every fortnight.

This is obviously a shock as the Synarel should be stopping periods (no period Feb, March or April) not re-starting them.

Has anyone else had this issue?

My gynaecologist says I can’t increase my Synarel dose, but has suggested lowering my oestrogen (tried this but then get loads of symptoms - pain/aches/mood swings).

Any advice gratefully received!

Hi.

I was using synarel a few months ago. It should take your hormones to zero, so I can understand why your gynae suggests it's the estrogen that's causing the bleeds.

I tested my hormones in synarel before I added in hrt, and they were gone.

I'd possibly start with an at home blood test to measure how much estrogen you've got. Because, in theory, it should all be coming from your HRT.

I'm assuming this is a trial before a hysterectomy??

You can't increase synarel, but there are injections used which do the same thing and may he a little stronger - decapectal or zoladex.

And...just a thought - are you sure you're getting the spray up your nose??? It used to run out on me sometimes.  ;D

And, if you're on synarel, I disagree with clkd, you need a gynae. Meno clinics won't deal with chem meno.

Thanks CrispyChick.

Yes, the spray is going up my nose, as I get the awful taste in my throat!

Previously I was on zoladex, but without HRT add back and had a horrendous experience with it - chronic neck and shoulder pain and migraines. So we stopped.

Historically, my body has never liked hormonal treatment, as my body didn’t respond well to the POP - I ended up having to take two tablets to stop my periods. Mirena could set me loopy! Irrational, aggressive etc.

So I’m guessing my body is some how rejecting the Synarel.

Currently on waiting list for a total hysterectomy due to endo and adeo.  Which will hopefully sort this all out

Ah ok boing boing. That makes sense.

I started with decapectal (not sure that was the right name) and no HRT - most horrific thing I've ever done. So yes, you need the HRT - but my guess is, the Estrogen is triggering your problems and bleeds.

Yes, the hysterectomy should sort out your bleeding. But you do want hrt established first so you know what you tolerate and what helps. So, if it was me, I'd test my estrogen levels now and, if you try reducing hrt again to stop the bleeds and become symptomatic, test again.

It's all data. And data your gynae won't collect. Then you'll know what level of E you need to feel good after the op. And by then, no bleeding.  :)

I've just tried double dose POP and it has supressed me so far I felt like I'd landed back in chem meno. It's all so hard work.

I suspect you won't find an answer until your op. But, if you've been struggling this long, I really urge you to start monitoring yourself so you know what you want later.

How long is the wait?

I was referred in Jan 25 and told between 9-12 months.

This last week has been horrific!

I had to take the week off work as I was beyond crazy! Emotions through the roof, paranoid, neurotic, anxious etc. migraines, diarrhoea, nausea, you name it.

I’ve reduced my oestrogen to 75 Everol and take progesterone anally with Cyclogest 200. Also take testosterone alongside my twice a day Synarel.

God I feel horrific and yet another period has started. Now bleeding every 12 days.

This is ridiculous! This isn’t moving me towards menopause it’s doing the opposite!
