Delay period utrogestan
« on: June 09, 2025, 09:52:33 PM »

Hi! Just trying to align my periods up with my holiday next month as they're still pretty much a 28/30 day cycle. Can I take my utrogestan on day 13 for 12 days so it fits on with my plans or do you have to take it from day 15? 🙈not too sure if you can move your utrogestan dates? Thanks

You can take progesterone whenever you want as long as you take the minimum amount necessary to protect your endometrium, which is typically 12-14 days per month.

However as micronised progesterone is not strong enough to override an endogenous cycle, it is generally ineffective at manipulating your period if you are still menstruating.

If you are postmenopausal and no longer cycling endogenously then yes you can generally schedule withdrawal bleeding if and when when you choose.

If you are uncertain, and being bleed free on holiday is an important outcome, then I would get a course of a progestin from your GP that is known to be effective for period delay such as norethisterone or provera.

Thanks, great advice! I'm peri sorry still have my cycle like before I started hrt. Ah right might be no point in taking it earlier then, didn't realise. Thanks for your advice 😊
