Aching thigh (only the one!)
« on: June 04, 2025, 08:17:06 PM »

Hi, I use an app to monitor my cycle, and I've noticed the last couple of months mid cycle my thighs begin to ache.  I get this achy feeling just before my period sometimes and it feels just like that but I don't usually get it any other time.  However, it's been just the one - this time it's the left.  I don't know if it's hormonally related - I'm thinking mid cycle, is it ovulation type pains?  It does feel a little like period pain, but I'm not getting any usual stomach cramps, just the odd twinge (on the left side again).

I'm 51, not on HRT, but have picked up some today from a GP appointment last week.  This was because I've been getting ever so sore down below, what feels like inside.  I'm in two minds whether to start the HRT if I'm honest.  I'm trying to lose weight and I'm worried that it'll make me put it on rather than lose it.  I don't know if the HRT will help with the soreness inside or the aches and pains though so am trying to weigh up the benefits to it.

Does anyone else suffer with strange aches around mid cycle to period which you don't normally have?  I had a hysteroscopy last october for thickened lining (which everything was okay).

Thanks

That reminds me that my thighs/legs would ache in the days prior to a period starting.  My bottom also felt as though it was going to drop out!  I forget every month until it began again  ::)

You state picked up some today: what has been prescribed?  If U are sore then appropriate Vaginal Atrophy treatment will work wonders, used every night for as long as necessary and in general for ever.

As an aside my wisdom teeth sockets would be really painful at 'certain' times of the month ....... DH would have to sieve food for me - some1 could have written a Thesis!!

Yes, exactly that kind of feeling, but it's only on one side, and it's now mid cycle rather than just before the period starting.  I'm still getting those kinds of aches just before, but now it seems I'm having them for 2 weeks before rather than 2 days.

I've picked up gel (2 pumps a day) and progesterone tablets (2 for 14 days, then 14 days off).  My GP appointment was last thursday which was day 17 of a 35 day cycle, so she said I could start it straight away.  However the chemist only got it in today which is now day 23, so I'm not sure if I can start it now or wait until the start of my period.  But as I said, I'm still unsure whether I want to start it!

I also have Replens for the soreness.

Soreness down below on one side can be pain associated with the pudendal nerve called pudendal neuralgia.
Do you do weight lifting or ride a bike ?
Did this all start after your hysteroscopy ?

Morning.  It would be better to replace replens with appropriate VA treatment as although it may ease any soreness for a while, it won't help with loss of oestrogen.

I may have said that years ago I would wake in the early hours with excruciating deep thigh muscle pain, so bad that I couldn't scream.  Due to bending over small cabinets at antique fairs so back related  ::)

No, the hysteroscopy was October, this has only started recently. I have wondered if it's muscular, but then sway back to thinking it's hormonal very quickly. I'm feeling very stressed about it all today. My mood seems more irritable today and I'm more snappy!

Can you start HRT anytime or does it have to be at the start of a period?

Which replacement has been prescribed?  It needs I think to co-incide with a cycle, if U put the product names into the search box separately U will find threads, make notes;-)
