Future topic request
« on: July 22, 2025, 06:28:43 AM »

Please may you do an article in a future magazine about Vaginal Atrophy treatments for those with history of estrogen positive breast cancer. It would be good to cover non hormonal and hormonal treatments, the different types and any risks involved particularly with vaginal estrogen , DHEA pessaries and Ospemifene tablets.
It would be reassuring to have something to refer to.
Thank you.

Good question.

Personally I have to consider quality of life.  VA treatments are usually a very small active ingredient ......... often essential for well being. So R unlikely to impact on triggering a recurrence.  It never crossed my mind to worry - I had breast treatment 30 years ago and began VA about 8 years ago.

MayB send a copy of this to Emma via her PM?

Thank you for your thoughts. I was treated  for Estrogen positive breast cancer nearly 20 years ago including 10 years of Tamoxifen. Although I am suffering from severe vaginal atrophy now I am still anxious about it all. I was prescribed vaginal estrogen last year and it was a game changer...it was amazing and really helped. It took me months to pluck up courage to use it. I am glad I did but the anxiety is there. Sadly I had to stop vaginal estrogen because I was getting severe migraines with aura...hadn't had one for years so it was a big shock. My gynae is wonderful and has now prescribed Intrarosa but I am back to square one in terms of plucking up courage to use it.

The real problem is having access to the Internet and getting too much un...medical information and reading the leaflets in the medication which frighten the he'll out of you.

I just thought it would be so useful to have the facts outlined in an article referencing medical studies  ...on vaginal treatments post breast cancer, their efficacy and risks/ benefits.

In reality I am 70, suffering from severe vaginal atrophy  causing UTIs and constant burning which is affecting my daily life.  I should think 'what the hell'  just use the treatments to improve the quality of my life and stop worrying about  BC recurrence.
Life is too short...quality of life is important.

Perhaps the article could include quality of life importance too.

Thank you  for your post and your positive way of looking at it all.
You have helped me today.

Let's hope there is room in the magazine for the suggested article.

Thanks again.😊❤️😊

Tnx. Emma.

Get the Interosa up there ASAP .  A lack of oestrogen may make the body dry including the vagina/vulval areas.  What's to lose?  More to gain I would suggest.

Remember that bus which might creep and get U from behind long B4 cancer may B triggered ??  I'm 72 nearly and never thought twice, in fact I'd 4gotten about my breast treatment: with the blue tattoos to aim up the radiation laser beam, I thought that I would be the person to think every night in the bath "I've had Cancer"  ::) .  Nope.

Once U have the condition under some form of control U can then lessen off from nightly to every 3rd 2 C how your vagina reacts.  VA mimics urine infection-type infections really really well  >:( >:(. I had to sit on the loo with a glass of cold fizzy water in one hand and a hot cuppa in the other, the 1 place that I could relax the bladder.

I agree about the article which will inform many and raise discussions.

That's a long while to take Tamoxifen  :-\  - a drug that almost killed me  :'(.  I had to stop after 3 months as it was a precaution after radiation treatment.

I'm here, holding your hand!   ;)

Gentle application initially every night: if it stings a bit that's due to the tissues being dry.  If after a couple of nights it's too sore, then every few nights will help until the area is moist enough to try every night. Also, I have found over the years that KY Jelly eases any dryness in the outer labia.  It's a bit Trial and Error so let us know how you get on.
