Utrogestan - palpitations, advice please
« on: May 28, 2025, 08:51:05 PM »

Hi, I’ve posted previously about the palpitations I’m getting – continuous ectopics beats. The GP thought it was low oestrogen and started me on patches – one patch of evorel. I was on gel – one pump – when the ectopic started and increased it to 3 pumps. When I stopped HRT for one day they stopped. I was then taken off HRT by the hospital for five days and they came back.

I’m now wondering if it could be utrogestan? I really can’t keep going on with so man ectopic beats 24/7.

My oestrogen is low – less than 88 but still wondering if it could be the progesterone.

Also, I don’t feel that I’m getting any help on a continuous basis – really hard to get an appointment with my GP and don’t know where to turn. Can anyone recommend a private menopause clinic that might be able to help – feeling pretty desperate.

Under the care of a cardiologist who has done various tests and not found anything so far.

My magnesium level is 0.86 which is considered normal but the lower end.

Would really appreciate some help and advice

I also have many palpitations. It can be the sympathetic nervous system that ramps up after menopause. My uncle is a retired cardiologist and he told me both low oestrogen and progesterone can cause them. I always had palps in the luteal phase of my cycle when oestrogen was low and the progesterone was high.

I find staying hydrated really helps and frequent small meals. Also uncle said gentle exercise helps and enough sleep.
I have episodes of low blood pressure which makes them worse as the sympathetic activity goes up. I know how annoying and frightening they can be. I had to go to A&E about two weeks ago as I had them non stop for 12 hours!! Then they just stopped. So weird!

Also I think I read you had benign tumours on your adrenals and rushes. I had the same. Have you had your catecholamines tested?

Hi thanks so much for replying. Yes, had my catecholamines tested and so far urine test back and all normal. Waiting for blood tests but I think that may make it unlikely now. I’m going through hell, I have nearly non stop palms for 4 weeks - with 1 week off. I was thinking this could be caused by low oestrogen and higher progesterone. I’ve stopped the utrogestan (stopped for 3 nights) and a little better but I’m not sure the 1.5 patches are going to deliver enough oestrogen. Mine was less than 88 recently and I had no idea until this forum that it’s supposed to be at least 250 and above. I really appreciate your tips because I’m getting so down with it all and its frightening - walking definitely helps but more cos I can’t feel them! Did you have adrenal issues?

I'm sorry you are going through this. It's horrible. They did think I had a pheo because my blood catecholamines came back with grossly elevated noradrenaline. I went on to be diagnosed with dysautonomia by an autonomic specialist. My sympathetic nervous system is overactive due to blood flow issues. The gold standard test for pheo is the Plasma metanephrine test. It is unlikely you have this though as it's very rare but they should run it.

Also I am wondering what your blood pressure is like. They did a 24 hour blood pressure monitoring with me and my systolic was dropping to the 70s. I have noticed when my blood pressure is lower the ectopics are worse. Your oestrogen will fluctuate and even different preparations will absorb differently I was told by the endocrinologist. It's very important you take a progesterone to stop the uterine lining thickening. Could you try it vaginally? I have been taking it this way.
