Hypnosis for Flushes/Night Sweats
« on: May 20, 2025, 04:29:16 PM »

I can't find anything on the forum relating to this but has anyone had any experience or knows of anyone that has had hypnosis for hot flushes and night sweats? I've been umming and ahing for quite a while whether to try the Evia app but can find few reviews, though clinical trials on hypnosis seem to be very positive (for other symptoms too). My daytime flushes are controlled now with HRT but nights are a different story and the app appears to target the hypothalamus of which mine has been truly broken for going on 15 years now! Having tried every other option going this would be my last ditch effort.

Hi.  R U seeing a Consultant on a regular basis?  Peri menopause with the rise and fall of hormones can mess with thyroid function etc. as well as producing anxiety surges.  It can take a while to get sorted  ::)

I worked with a psychologist who practised hypnotherapy, apparently I wasn't a suitable candidate  ;D.  Yoga, deep breathing, walking .......... music, 'me time' ....... let us know how you get on.

No, I haven't, sorry.  You could phone up a few and ask if they have done this before and what the results are.  Chevk reviews of the hypnotherapists and get a few to ring.

Acupuncture can help with flushes & sweats, not sure if you've tried that.

Thanks CLKD. Yes I've been seeing a private meno specialist regularly for nearly two years now trying to get the right HRT dose. I'm 15 years post menopause (late menopause at that) and I seem to be one of those that are stuck with them for life (my mum was too I realise now). They're not intense like they were at their worse and did go down to 4 a night at one point which was manageable but then they shot up to sometimes 9 a night and that's when I decided I needed specialist advice. They're currently down to 5-6 a night and usually I get back to sleep reasonably quickly.

VioletAquarius That's a good idea to ring around if I do decide to go down the hypnosis route. The appeal of the App is that it's specifically designed for night sweats with an understanding of the root cause of it. I'm not sure I would find a hypnotherapist that would have that depth of meno knowledge.

No, I haven't tried acupuncture - I think it's the cost of trying so many different things over time to no avail that puts me off seeing yet another specialist but it is something I would consider.

I think I may as well wait until I see the specialist again in a couple of months time and see what she thinks to the different options and take it from there, but thank you very much both of you for your suggestions.

Will do CLKD.

It can be draining at times but doesn't have too big an impact on my daily life I don't think. I suppose my biggest concern is what years and years of very disturbed sleep is doing to my brain in respect of the future - dementia and the like. I am grateful that it's not painful (give me that over VA/GSM anytime!) and at the level it's at at the moment (with the help of HRT), one of the least troubling of meno symptoms compared to many of the others on the endless list that I feel lucky to have escaped so far.

Thank you! :)
