Suffering with low moods
« on: May 06, 2025, 07:40:35 AM »

Hi all,

Since starting menopause 5 years (surgical menopause) i have suffered sooo much with if i have highs, like weekends away or birthday celebrations, I suffer really bad with lows, sometimes to the point of suicide thoughts and constant sadness.
Had anyone else experienced this?
I've changed my hrt so many times over the 5 years and that does not seem to help
Thank you

Morning.  Yes.  Anticipatory anxiety plus adrenaline surges leading up to the event/s then the come down in the following couple of days.  I had to stop attending certain events as the downs weren't worth it.  I've not been on HRT.

How is your diet overall?

Hello Lisa

You have my sympathy!

I first experienced mood changes when I became post menopausal, I had never been a ' moody' person before and I never had mood problems when menstruating.  I have had highs and lows, times of serene calmness and times of  high anxiety but I have never managed to come off the rollercoaster.

I am taking a break from  HRT to see if I can achieve some emotional balance without adding in extra hormones. My trusty meno book says that even this symptom  resolves at some point and I certainly hope that is right.

I'm sorry that I can't be more helpful and I wish you well.

Take care.

K.

Hi Lisa
I feel so much for you.  Those lows are dreadful!  I can't take HRT, and went through an early menopause after chemotherapy treatment.  The low moods were and are dreadful, but I may have made them better by taking a bio-magnesium complex from Pharma Nord.  Google it, and see what you think.  I've also adjusted my diet considerably.  I loved coffee (flat white my fav!), but it would give me such a low after the initial high.  Sugar does the same to me now.  Alcohol too!!!!!  Wow, that all sounds so boring, but I had to make changes if I wanted to feel better.
Good luck Lisa.

Coffee never affected me nor caffeine in cola.  Recently I've swopped sugar for agave syrup in tea ......... it's stopped that repetitive cough!

Oh nooo you couldn't go on HRT?? You poor thing... not sure i would be about if it wasn't for HRT.

Yeah Alchol has done that to me when I was in a lower dose if HRT m seems to be OK at mo, but to be fair I don't drink much anyway.
I have sooo many plans coming up soon, and I'm excited for them but the dread of the lows is always there
..

Ooo I've been hearing about Magnesium loads lately.. I will check it out

Lisa, Aw! Bless you for your kind words.
One other thing I’d suggest is when you’re feeling really low try some on-line gentle yoga, meditation or Pilates. It’ll just put your mind somewhere else for a bit. Maybe not for long but it just might take the edge off the low lows. I find Caroline McCreedy led breathing meditations really helpful. And Jessica Richborough (sp?) for gentle yoga/Pilates. They help me to reset is the best way to describe it. Good luck. I really hope you find a way or lots of little ways that make a difference to you.
