Gel and tablets
« on: May 07, 2025, 02:23:01 PM »

Hi I’m new here.
Just looking for some advice.
I started the evorel sequi and conti patches one month ago. As soon as I started the conti my anxiety kicked in badly so I ripped it off after 5 days. My go has given me the gel and progesterone tablets. I’m not sure when to take as my cycle is all messed up. Also I’m worried about the anxiety getting bad again and weight gain xxx

Anxiety is dreadful and for some reason it kicks in during peri  >:(

I don't think weight gain is usually a problem.  Some find that changing their diet at this time helps over all health, certainly over the last 2/3 years I've found it helpful. Cutting out croissants, scones, some other foods .......... as well as not eating muesli with milk for breakfast.

Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use.

I would wait for you bleed and call that day 1, then you take utro days 15-26. The norethisterone in evorel does cause problems for some people, you'll probably find you're OK with utro.

If you don't have a regular cycle, using the first of every month to start your course of progesterone can be helpful and ensures you get adequate endometrial protection.

The problem with trying to synchronise it with an erratic menstrual cycle is that it is like trying to time the stock market, and if you aren't careful can result in under use of the progesterone.

So do you think I should just wait until I next have a bleed then go from that date?
I’m just hoping I don’t get the anxiety again. I can cope with the hot flushes etc but the anxiety is the worst symptom xx

I wouldn't wait for a bleed to start another cycle - doing this can result in undertreatment with progesterone which is needed to keep the endometrium healthy.

You need to take at least 12 days per month of progesterone (unless you are under a specialist and being monitored with scans) or you could end up developing a thickened lining over time which can cause no end of problems.

There are multiple other options which are bleed free if you prefer. I personally am not a fan of cyclical hormone therapy in peri as it commonly results in chaotic bleeding, angst over what cycle day they are on and when to take the progesterone, and can lead to more days spent bleeding overall than untreated women.

If you are under 50 with no risk factors, a combined pill taken continuously can be a better option.
