Bulky uterus...eh, anyone?
« on: May 01, 2025, 12:52:19 PM »

Hi girlies

So I've been plodding along on my cyclical regime of Oestrogel 6 and half pumps and 15 days 200mg Utrogestan vaginally. Ive had no break through bleeding or issues but had a transvaginal scan to see how it's all looking down there.

Songograther reported "Bulky uterus" and 8mm endometrium. This was one day after my bleed. Also a 14mm fibroid encroaching the endo. She suggested seeing a gynecologist to check pathology but wasn't bothered by the other larger fibroid. I think its the location of one encroaching endometrium that was the reason for referal. Anyone have similar experience?

Thinking on whether I should increase utrogestan for more than 2 weeks? Is that a thing I danno. Didn't want to do continuous regime if I can help it. Any insight would be greatly appreciated

I had a couple of weeks of breakthrough bleeding (post menopause I think but had stayed on cyclical because it suited me much better than ongoing bleeds).  Went to doctor, who was concerned but not surprised, she said utrogestan not as effective as some other progesterone options, but it always worked previously! Tried / failed to do smear test to get sample. Tried/failed to do ultrasound  at hospital in that they managed to inspect one ovary and part of uterus, which was described as 'bulky' and transverse, and similar thickening of endometrium of about 8mm. Tried/failed to do hysteroscopy without general anaesthetic. Eventually had it under GA as day case procedure. Got a Mirena fitted at same time. Have had minor breakthrough bleeding for about 2 months. I didn't have any fibroids (used to, but presumably they have shrunk). I think you do need the pathology checked though, it came through very quickly, which was a relief, but it also got me in touch with a doctor who was willing to work with me on what best treatment / HRT changes should be considered now. I am 62, so she'd prefer I stopped HRT, but I am still symptomatic, so trying gradually reduction in oestrogen patches, along with continual progesterone from Mirena.

Thank you so much, that's super helpful info.

Sonograther mentioned my ovaries are fine and said both fibroids are focal submucosal, which when I looked it up, are common and non-cancerous.
She said best to refer me because of it's location inbeded in endo, and she didn't know if it was coming out of or going into endo.

She also said up to 10mm thickness of lining is ok if no breakthrough bleeding on hrt.

I'm not looking forward to any biopsy they may do, and I'm sorry you had to go through this ordeal. Sounds rough.
I at least now know with your help that I can get a GA for anything painful, as I am a whimp. Although my smears have been easy, and a polyp was removed too, which was a breeze.

Thanks again, I appreciate you.
