Hi all. I'm in the process of coming off all HRT completely. It just doesn't suit me. I'm 57 and although I haven't had a period for many years because of the mirena, blood tests have indicated I'm through the menopause.
I came off evorel patches the day I was due to have my mirena removed. This is the 3rd one I've had and has been in 3 years, but the nurse couldn't get it out. Apparently it's stuck in the cervical canal with the tip of the mirena showing at the bottom of my cervix.
GP has now referred me to gynae for a hysteroscopy and advised they're probably going to have to dilate my cervix to get it out. I've never given birth and all other mirena fittings have been painful, but thankfully, quick. As you can imagine, I'm pretty worried about this procedure.
I thought they'd get me an appointment quickly due to the location of the coil, but the earliest appointment isn't for another 5 weeks. I don't know whether that's just a consultation, or whether they're going to try to remove it.
I'm feeling pretty upset about the whole thing and whilst I don't have massive pain, I'm in discomfort with it. My cervix feels sore and my tummy is puffed up and I feel like either mild period pains, or like a painful full bladder, even when I've wee'd. 5 weeks is feeling like an awfully long time right now and the wait could be even longer if I then need a GA. I'm really worried things are going to get worse and cause more damage in the meantime. The GP just said to go back to them if the pain gets worse, or I have any discharge.
Any thoughts or support would be welcome, as I'm feeling completely fed up with this right now. 😞
