Is it the same Oetrogel as Besin's??
« on: January 16, 2025, 10:09:16 AM »

Hello Ladies,

I have been using 2 -3 pumps of Oetrogel made by Besins and the the nightly tablet of progesterone(Utrogestran) for over 18months with no issues at all. I went for my usual 3 month supply to the GP Pharmacy and they have issued me with Oestrogel made by a company called Quantrant Pharmaceuticals based in the UK. The bottle is exactly the same and it looks like the same dosage. I'm guessing this is a licensed product. However, after many weeks of usage I starting to see my symptoms like anxiety and sore gums pop back up again. Is it me just going mad or have people had the same issue??

I had a hygienist appointment booked a few weeks back and she was not concerned about anything that could be triggering my sore gums, so I'm guessing this is hormonal.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated, as I'm starting to feel like I'm going round the twist. :o

You're not mad at all!

The slightest alteration in a product or packaging can impact.  [My cats would be aware of changes in their food stuffs for example, even though the Company denied it!].  Has Beins been taken over the Quantrant?  Have U thought to send a e-mail to Besins to find out whether there is much difference in the product?

Hello StrictlyFan

I don't use this product myself but there has been a lot of discussion on this topic on the forum so perhaps do a search.

As I recall many ladies have had a similar experience to you and some found that the pump mechanism was producing less gel and this was leading to a return of symptoms.

I am sorry that I can't be of more help and hopefully some knowledgeable ladies will be along soon.

Wishing you well and take care.

StrictlyFan,

Quadrant is a parallel importer, they procure Oestrogel in Europe (various countries) and sell it in the UK. The manufacturer is Besins. Some women don't feel well despite the manufacturer saying it's exactly the same gel, but many feel better after using the same product for some time, so its seems the body adjusts to the 'new' product. For some women it seems that the constant changing of Oestrogel from different sources (mind you, the manufacturer is the same, but the manufacturing facilities are different) is what triggers symptoms. If you can get a bunch of Oestrogel from the same batch it might be a good idea.
