Brain Fog
« on: March 21, 2025, 02:44:22 PM »

I am becoming increasingly forgetful in work, to the point that I cannot remember some quotes etc that I have completed. My husband seems exasperated with me and says “it’s almost as if I haven’t spoken to you!” I am getting quite upset with it all and am beginning to wonder if I should seek medical help in case it is not just menopausal! No one can understand how difficult it is and that sometimes I cannot remember people’s names! Does anyone else have these issues. I just feel like I losing the plot.

Hi Tpaz, welcome to the forum.

Memory issues used to be a major problem for me, causing me a lot of stress at work. Names was always a biggie but also difficulty focusing and taking on board new info. I don't know where you are on your menopause journey but HRT definitely helped a lot with that side of things for me. Oestrogen to some extent but I needed to testosterone to be able to function at a reasonable level again.

That said, lots of things can affect memory, like thyroid, B12 levels, so perhaps worth discussing with your GP

:welcomemm:  brain fog is common as we age.  What R your periods up to? Have U had a full blood count including thyroid function and VitD levels?

U need to get a different way of talking to each other: when I have something important to say I stand in front of DH so that we focus.  He has the habit of wandering away muttering  >:(  ::) we live in a large house so it is very frustrating. So mayB focussing purely on what needs to be said, we also. have a his/hers calendar: if it ain't on it we ain't doing it  ;D

I have made lists since an early age which helps a lot.

Thank you both for your replies  :)       I am about 2 years in. Haven’t had periods in well over a year (a small blessing) I am on personalised HRT which includes testosterone. I have had numerous blood tests due to fatigue but they all come back normal, thyroid was among them. I find it difficult to talk to him as he just doesn’t understand. I will reach out to my GP again.

Have you had your hormone levels checked to ensure you are getting sufficient levels of the HRT you are taking?

How is your diet? Things like omega 3/ fish oils, B vitamins are all good for brain function.
