Back Pain
« on: March 10, 2025, 01:23:03 PM »

For many years I've had some ongoing back pain, and not really had any successful treatment from the doctor. I started HRT in November, and increased the oestrogen dose in February from 50 to 75 patches. The second batch are also a different brand to the first. Both batches have stuck OK and I feel that I am absorbing well as my menopause symptoms improved on the first batch, and are even better since I started the increased dose.

Since the increase, I've had a couple of episodes of really quite severe back pain. Do you think that could be related to the increased oestrogen dose, or the change in brand? Maybe it's just too much, or maybe my body just needs more time to adapt to it.

I don't think it's connected to the progesterone as my first bout of backache started just after I stopped the progesterone for a few days. And the second bout of backache started toward the end of my progesterone cycle, but was already easing slightly before I reached the break.

Could it just be coincidence, have you been more active and triggered the back pain? What part of the back hurts, lower or upper back?

It could just be a coincidence, yes. I'm not sure why that didn't even occur to me. It's just odd that it's been ongoing but mild for many years, with one really bad episode over 10 years ago, then suddenly two recently.

It's my lower back, right in the middle as if it's my spine, and with no obvious trigger at all.

It is improving, so hopefully it will go away soon!

Hi, I've had a similar thing happen to me. Soon it'll be 1 year since I started HRT, and shortly after switching to a cyclical regime I began noticing lower back pain. I'd never had back pain in my life, of any kind. I noticed it a lot more when lying down in bed to sleep, and I had nights where the pain would awaken me.

It's been 7 months of almost daily pain, sometimes more sometimes less, mostly at night in bed, but never so severe that I felt the need to go to a doctor. Just recently it's improved quite a bit, I've not increased or decreased my HRT dose, but I did start to take collagen, as well as an anti-inflammatory supplement called PEA (palmitoylethanolamide), so could any of these have something to do with it? Maybe it's to do with some adjusting process the body goes through when put on hormones, and eventually goes away, I don't know.

I think HRT has a lot of benefits and also for many women some side effects, could this be one of them? Maybe. I've also began to have episodes of headaches here and there, nothing important but it's caught my attention because I've never had that problem before, it's something completely new to me.

Another thing I noticed since HRT is worse leg circulation and spider veins and similar appearing or worsening, but that's a different subject.
