Low abdominal ache
« on: February 22, 2025, 11:09:06 AM »

Hello ladies, I am approaching 54 years old and not had a period for approximately 4 years. I have had a dull ache in my tummy for a couple of weeks. I’ve been to the doctor 3 times in this time. I was prescribed antibiotics for a UTI even though water sample was clear the first time. The second time a full blood testing was taken including ovarian cancer. Plus stool sample. Again all clear. Yesterday I noticed a little brown discharge panicked and called the doctors I was given an internal examination and told everything is pink and healthy. I use estradiol vaginal tablets and recently the box changed and the applicators changed unsure if the tablet changed. I don’t take any other HRT. My lady bits feel dry and when I put a vaginal soothing cream on it stings. I’m at my wits end with this. Also can I add that my stress levels have been horrific over recent weeks and I’m also suffering with feeling sick and indigestion. Has anyone else had anything similar please? Any advice would be greatly received x

Firstly, examinations have shown 'nil of note'.

How often do you insert the estradiol, at least 3 weeks every night is recommended initially. Some require treatment every night for years.  If that doesn't help there are other preparations to ease VA symptoms.

It may be a change of box due to a different manufacture, the Surgery will prescribe the cheapest drug required.  If that doesn't help: as with antidepressants 2 years ago causing problems as they were cheaper, I was swopped back to my other drug.

It means they haven't found anything for you to worry about.
Use the pessaries every day until you start to feel better then reduce the dose if you can, if pessaries alone are not helping you can also use an oestrogen cream to smear on the outside. Treatment can take four months to take effect, patience is the key here.
The tablet composition should not have changed, if they have given you a cheaper version ask for what you had previously, some women don't get on when changed to a different pessary, something to do with the filling they use.

This document should help you, its the recommendations I follow

Digestive problems are very common as we age, time to look at your diet as you will find you can't tolerate some of the foods you once did.

I was also going to suggest asking your GP for estriol cream to use externally. Especially as you commented about feeling dry.
I sometimes get a low down aching too.

Stress can have a big impact on your body. It can wreak havoc with your digestion causing nausea and indigestion. It's definitely worth investigating possible food intolerances though.
