Night time discharge
« on: February 02, 2025, 09:10:06 AM »

This is a weird one but lately I've been getting a discharge during the night, almost a sudden one and it disturbs my sleep because I feel it. No odour or anything.  And once the discharge has exited it stops. Nothing in the day. I used vagifem alternate nights and estriol cream externally daily. It seems to be on the night I don't use the vagifem. I'm wondering if it's from the vagifem pessary the night before or whether I don't need the vagifem as often now. It's strange how it happens during the night. Can anyone she'd any light on this? I really don't want to ask my GP. I feel as though I'm never away from there lately.

Natural lubrication discharging the residue from the 'vagifem'?

Hypoestrogenism itself can paradoxically result in watery vaginal discharge in some instances.

Particularly given this seems to be occurring on the nights you don't take the pessary the obvious suggestion to try would be taking a pessary every night and see if this makes a difference.

Okay. I thought the first might be a possibility but haven't heard of the second. I'm reluctant to increase as I have had bleeds in the past. I might try actually dropping and see if anything changes. It's not likely to be anything more serious then? It's strange how it is during the night rather than when I'm upright and moving.

I've just googled, something I try not to do. It seems it can be simply lubrication, hormonal eg menstrual cycle or if you're using her products or can be due to arousal from passionate dreams (definitely not the latter). Thanks for the suggestions

Yes I am. I skipped my vagifem last night and everything was ok but could just be coincidence as I've not been getting the problem every time.

Just an update. After a week of no problems I was woke again last night with the same thing. I think it could be bacterial vaginosis, something I've had before so my GP has prescribed antibiotics. Failing that it could be the VA and that the alternate night of vagifem isn't enough now. It's strange why it's during the night though and not every night. I might do a week of nightly vagifem to see if that helps. It's annoying as I've had about 10 months with no symptoms at all so thought I'd cracked it. I'm going to record which nights it happens to see how it fits around my vagifem.

I have had 6 months of increased discharge but during the day and have struggled to see a pattern relating to Vagifem use/no use. I couldn’t decide if it was too much or too little. Latest GP visit (!) she changed Vagifem for Estriol cream to be used daily for 2 weeks with (applicator). One week in and today I’ve had my first day free for 6 months. So maybe it was under use after all. Who knows? It seems so trial and error.
I would find it strange to be just at night too.

It is strange and after getting the antibiotics I waited and didn't have it so haven't used the antibiotics however the other night on my vagifem-off night I had some. Not as bad. It's my off night tonight so I'm going to see if it happens and then maybe it's related to VA.  My GP once told me that once your vagina is estrogenised,  it's normal to get some discharge again. But in the night🤷
