I don't think your age is a problem for a mirena, I had my first one a couple of months ago aged 64. Most people are fine with vaginal utro though for me I was doped all day and awake much of the night (no side effects from the mirena). The other problem is that vaginal use is off licence for hrt. Utrogestan is fine vaginally, it's used that way in the rest of Europe but many are now getting substitutes instead of utrogeston and we don't know if they work vaginally or not. Cyclogest is OK but not licensed for hrt so your gp may not prescribe it.
