Never feeling 100%
« on: December 30, 2024, 07:10:37 AM »

Just a question, do others feel they never feel 100%? My daughter says there is nearly always something wrong with me.  I think she forgets I’m 56 with a ft stressful job and living with a 2 1/2 year old granddaughter and her.  Everyday I seem to have aches, tired, irritability, feel queasy, anxiety, headache etc and that’s on HRT patches.  I feel I can never really plan too much as I don’t know how I will be feeling.  Just wanted to see if others feel similar and what helps them. Xx

I can go a few days without some ailment but that's about it, there's usually something that will turn up to ruin the day.
Thankfully nothing major but still annoying, think it's called getting old  ;)
I did have a stressfull job at your age during menopause and anxiety has always been an issue, but at least I could retreat to a relaxing home environment at the end of the day and weekends. I love my 6 grandchildren ages range 16 to 2 but I'd find it very difficult to live with them. An afternoon running round after my  2 year old granddaughter is great fun but very tiring and you have this everyday. Sounds like you need alot more me time to relax and unwind.

Hi, sorry to hear you are suffering. Yes me, I never go a day without something affecting me. My main one being severe depression, mornings are the worst, but also often have nausea, stomach upset and fatigue.

You are not alone  :'(

No wonder you feel anxious etc., there's a lot going on in your life with your DD and grandchild under the same roof!

Add to that your age and any hormonal upheavals!

For me nausea = high levels of anxiety!

Which HRT regime have you been prescribed and how long have you been using it?

Thanks for your replies guys.  I’m on 75 Everol and have been on them for a number of years CLKD.  Also take magnesium, B vits, iron etc.  Dierdre, thanks so much for understanding.  Sounds like you are busy.  Toriij, sending hugs to you.  Do you work as well? I’ve had depression in the past so I can totally empathise. Xx

I'm suffering this morning not having eaten enough or at the 'right' time over the last 2-3 days  :'(.  My body is hungry.  DH has made some pancakes which store for a few days in the fridge and are easy to eat: with lemon and sugar.

Hi Banana, I work from home and not too stressful. I’m not sure I would be able to hold down a stressful job to be honest. Good that you take lots of vits, I do too. I feel like they don’t make any difference but don’t want to find out how I’d be if I didn’t take them. Thanks for the hug, sending one back to you.

CLKD sorry to hear you are suffering today. We have all had some stomach bug in our house, just recovering now but this has really not helped. I hope you manage to eat some pancakes xx

Hi Banana,  I often feel like this but it's noticeably worse over the winter months.  My energy levels have never been great since getting severely unwell with glandular fever many years ago. Prioritising sleep, working part time and trying not to say 'yes' to everything has helped. It's taken a long time to really get my head around the fact that I need to put my health and wellbeing first and sometimes that means saying no to other's expectations.

Great ideas here.  It is said that in the UK we should be using VitD supplement all year if necessary.  Other vitamins can be absorbed from our food.  Trying to get into the sunshine daily can help lift mood: taking time to smell the roses stands us well through the year: I found 2 yellow flowers this morning [name escapes me  ;D] in the long grass  8)

Pancakes worked!  2 then 1.5 hours another.  Evening meal eaten now, feet up.

I have background low mood at this time of year despite being on ADs.

I hope you feel better CLKD.  What a lovely husband! K45, great advice.  Women are just used to doing too much! We always put ourselves last.  I agree with you Toriij, as I’m scared to stop taking the vits x

He's worth my hanging onto  ;)

Plenty of fresh air; good diet; eating little and often; add VitD when necessary ......... and having lots of 'me' time ;-)

Same age (56), also work FT (teacher), often feel like I'm catching myself coming backwards.  My youngest (28) has moved back home and it's a challenge living in a house with loads of different energy patterns.

What helps me?  Like I've been in f2f therapy for 6+ years.  Seriously.  Not sure I could function without it.

Naps.

Bourbon.

High protein / unprocessed diet.

Riding a motorbike.

Giving myself permission to be absolutely selfish.

Strong boundaries.

Still feel like pants sometimes though.  If you find a magic wand, can I borrow it from time to time?

Elk, sorry to hear how you are feeling.  I will look for a wand! Are you a UK based teacher like me? X

Yeah, secondary, tough school, something like 50% PP and the SEN crisis is very real.  I honestly don't know how anyone teaches in primary at the moment.  If I'm honest, it's brutal but I'm a career changer (became a teacher when I was 53) so I still have some energy left for the job.

Completely different tack here, I'm also a union rep, and my HoD is the main rep for the school.  This means I have a lot of support in terms of boundaries.  For example, I won't be going to INSET because I've got a medical appointment.  Sure, I could've scheduled this for the holidays but I don't need to sit in a drafty hall listening to random career building waffle (for the person in charge of that particular training segment) masquerading as CPD.  Also, we're very hot at my place about directed time, duties, shared resources, how we respond to the mantra of 'have you called home?', etc.  In other words, while I do work long hours, I do this autonomously (I like planning lessons and am left alone to teach what and how I want - obviously, within the constraints of the NC and because I can get the results).  I just completely ignore everything I think is stupid.

^^ Point being, although I'm knackered, it's a kind of good knackered, not filled with loads of frustration.

How long have you been teaching?  Are you in TPS?  Any possibility of an early retirement?  Are you familiar with David Fountain's stuff around this, including his FB group?

Morning Elk, not been on here as had headache for last few days pretty bad.  I teach primary.  We have high SEN.  I have been teaching for nearly 32 years.  I still love my job.  I’ve always been in TPS.  I’m new to David Fountain but will look into this.  Have a nice day. Xx
