Achey breast
« on: December 23, 2024, 07:06:07 PM »

Hi , I’ve been on everol 75 for some time and 200 mg Utrogestan due to spotting
However I was feeling groggy every morning so reduced to 100mg 2 weeks ago which was suggested by my menopause Dr as the grogginess was like a hang over .

I’m now experiencing an aching on the side of my left breast
Has anyone had this with a reduction in Utrogestan?  I know if it continues I’ll go to the Dr

I occasionally get soreness/aching in both breasts and I don't use HRT.

Is your problem cyclical?

I’m not sure but I’m just wondering if it’s because I’ve reduced my Utrogestan with meno Dr advise

Just sharing this in case it helps someone:

I've been having a lot of breast pain on both breasts starting 2 weeks before my period's due to begin, which really got worse this year after  beginning to take HRT. My breasts were also feeling swollen and kind of heavy, but the pain was very intense. I've had fibrocystic breasts for many years but never had much pain before, just some discomfort but nothing like this level of pain.

My gynae gave me a micronised progesterone gel to apply during those days (Darstin) but it didn't make much difference to be honest.

What has worked absolute wonders for me in terms of ridding me of the pain entirely has been iodine, more specifically iodine drops, the ones that you're supposed to take orally (as it is a nutritional supplement).

I read about this and almost 3 months ago began massaging 3 drops of this iodine on each breast every morning after my shower, starting 2 weeks before my period was due. I mix the drops with a tiny bit of body lotion to make them more spreadable. That same night my breasts were hurting less. I went up to 6 drops on each breast during the week right before my period, the pain was almost gone. I've continued to use the iodine this way every day, but only 3 drops and then going progressively up to 6 during those 2 weeks before my period, then down to 3 again. I've not been having any pain on my breasts since.

Last week I went for my breast ultrasound which was due as the last one I had was 7 months ago. Since I have fibrocystic breasts and being on HRT my gynae wants me to do them twice a year. The doctor told me my breasts were slightly better than six months prior, I told him all about the iodine and he said well I don't believe in that, but if it's working for you and you have no pain, and the cysts look smaller, just continue to do it.

I'm still doing it, and haven't had breast pain again, also the swelling and heaviness are gone. I'm really looking forward to seeing the results in my next ultrasound, which the doctor told me to do in a year (I'll probably have one in six months though, as my insurance covers it and I'm very curious to see any new improvements).

I realise this thread is old but have just come across it as I am in the same situation as you so just wanted to see how the iodine is working for you now as I have just started applying to my breasts too.  Did things continue to improve in your last scan and any issues with too much iodine as I am not sure how much to apply so that it helps but it also doesn't muck up my thyroid? My last ultrasound showed my breasts are still really dense and I have a fibroadonema forming :-/   Have been on HRT for about 3 years.

Hi JBea, sorry I've not been on here for a long time and have just seen your post.

To answer your question yes I've continued using the iodine daily on my breasts and things have continued to improve, to the point I have absolutely no pain or swelling anymore. I'm due for my ultrasound in January, I had wanted to do it earlier than that but haven't got around it for one reason or another. I'll update you on the results once it's done if you want.

I started slowly, only 150mcg of iodine on each breast and I already saw an improvement with that. Went up to 300mcg/each, felt even better. Then 450mcg/each and stayed there because that was taking care of the problem completely. Then around August this year (25) I began to have some pain again which I attributed to the fact my hormones continue to wildly fluctuate during perimenopause (which apparently I still am on, according to my gynae who recently confirmed to me that my left ovary was still very much active, she said this after a transvaginal ultrasound I had a few days ago).  Anyway so I increased to 900mcg on each breast and that ended all pain instantly.

I've been on that dose since, till about a month ago I decided to try some different drops which have a lot more concentration of iodine per drop and are much more comfortable to use. 3 drops are 1350mcg so that's what I'm using now on each breast. Also I read that breasts need a minimum of 3000mcg (3mg) of iodine for good health, and there's a popular supplement in the US for fibrocystic breasts called Violet Daily (oral) that has those 3000mcg of iodine, plues 55mcg of selenium, and it seems to be quite effective. I've started to take a selenium supplement as well.

I think it would be important to measure iodine in a test, I've measured my levels in blood which are normal so far, but I've also read the best way is doing a 24 hour urine test, which I've not done yet but plan to. As for the thyroid yes it's also important to keep an eye on that as well, I've been looking at my levels in blood and so far it's fine.

I mentioned the use of iodine on my breasts to my current gynae and she was interested in it but didn't really give much attention to it. She's supposed to be an integrative gynecologist so she's open to these alternative therapies but she'd never heard of it.

I hope that was helpful :)
