Should I stop Utrogestan during period?
« on: December 09, 2024, 05:14:22 PM »

I'm in perimenopause and currently I'm on day 9 of the 14 days of Utrogestan however just today I noticed some bleeding has begun, so I'm wondering should I stop taking it during these 4 or 5 days or should I continue till day 14?

My dr. said to just continue, but it doesn't seem natural to me. I have a different opinion from another gynaecologist I saw recently who advised to stop taking it during period but then take 100mg for the following 14 days, which she said I should do because I don't sleep well at all during the 2 weeks I'm off the 200mg of Utrogestan.

Bit confused as to what to do with the Utrogestan tonight, on one hand I think it makes sense to not take it since it's like day 1 of the new cycle, but on the other hand I want to sleep, which the progesterone helps me so much with. Every dr. seems to have a different approach. Opinions welcome.

Continue I would.  Gynaes don't know a lot about HRT regimes.  Is there no info in the leaflet in the box?

U could put the product name into the search box to read what others have decided to do.  Make notes ;-)

I tried it both ways - taking it 2 weeks on then off  regardless of when I bled and then when I was bleeding at completely the wrong time I started the utrogestan day 15  to resynch. However, when I did that the withdrawal from the utrogestan was much worse. That said, once I'd resynched the following 3 cycles i bled at the correct time. The standard medical advice seems to be stick to.14 days on and off though.

Medical advice is to carry on regardless but I found it better to stop and start counting again from day 1. If it helps you sleep you could try the 25 days out of 28 routine. It can be useful in late peri as it allows a bleed if there's been a build up.

Thank you all so much for the replies, I think I'm gonna continue taking it till day 14.

But for my next cycle I want to try the 25 days out of 28 routine you propose sheila99. If I do this, would I be taking 200mg for the first 12 days and then 100mg the rest of days till 25?
This would be similar to what one gynae told me to do, only she didn't say I had to stop for a few days for the period to start (she said stop taking it when your period begins but not to stop taking it so it would. I hope this makes sense).
