Ovestin cream
« on: December 08, 2024, 10:42:17 AM »

My GP has given me this cream which I had to insert for two weeks and then twice weekly. I have had a couple of urine infections and soreness and extremely painful sex which is why she gave it to me. I've been ok on it no side effects and I did feel a difference after the 2 weeks but since reducing back to twice weekly painful sex again etc. I'm also on kliovance hrt half tablet a day. I'm 70. Would it be safe to increase the cream to maybe 3 times a week? Not sure how dangerous it might be. Any advice greatly appreciated

I don't think it's dangerous and think you can use it more than twice a week if you need to, but might be worth just checking with your nurse/GP before doing that

Your GP is behind the times!  It is quite safe to use VA every night when necessary.  Dr Newson is trying to get the wording altered in the leaflet in the box of VA treatments .

I use 'ovestin/estriol' cream internally as well as a smear around the vulval area.  When symptoms niggle I swallow two Nurofen 3 times a day.

If symptoms niggle I put a dose up mid-afternoon as well as B4 bed, then go back to using every night.  One cannot over dose on oestrogen ;-)

It is in no way dangerous to use this cream every day, one of the safest treatments for treating vaginal atrophy (GSM) and yes, the leaflet is very out of date. I use two treatments every day, the ovestin twice a day smeared on the outside, its the only way to control the symptoms for a lot of women and to keep pain free.

This is an old thread but still relevant

I would recommend every night for a week then review.  Better to get on top of VA sooner rather than later. 1 cannot use too much treatment ;-).
