Urgh I’m actually really struggling ! It’s been awful if I’m honest like a total zombie and I’m not sleeping every night - feel like it’s made my depression worse… and muscle and burning pains…, but I am a reluctant patient. Awful dreams too ! Took zopiclone on one night too she I was so out of it but in such a good mood when I woke up - first time in years ! But then bombed - I’m not well really got to come to terms with it and accept treatment but I’m struggling to .., xx.

Hi there, well yes indeed for me. Mirtazapine is an SNRI which is slightly different to the SSRI types. My Dr really rates them because they help you sleep, you don't get start up anxiety and they don't affect your sex life! I'm not saying they are for everyone and some people do find after a while they out on weight with them. I stayed on them for about a year after my hysterectomy and oophorectomy and I think they probably saved me from a complete mental break down which I was in the process of having..

Gnatty, do you think that the near mental breakdown, was due to the hysterectomy ( or partly?)

I can’t even have the mirtazapine, as apparently it interferes with my cancer drugs. I mean seriously, no HRT and now no mirtazapine! What do they expect me to do? I will be asking next week!

Seriously had enough 😢

It should get better Galway girl, but will definitely take time.

I have to say, as hard as I find getting on escitalopram - I'd probably rather have the side affects it gives me than zombie. I'm very sensitive to meds and I hate the zombie feeling.

But you're doing great still sticking with it.

Nas - there are plenty of other AD out there. See which they say you can take then maybe start on tiny dose. Build up really slowly. I know you're dreading any start up affects.  :(

Thsnks Crispy, yes I despise zombie ! I tried it one night before and said no way but I’ve done 9 nights now and had to out of desperation for sleep I had not slept all week. Yes I am super sensitive too - I don’t think people believe me - but they absolutely cripple me. I might sound chipper on here but I’m a mess with no life for last 6 months… I had thought about escatalopram too but I just cannot bear the anxiety start up and the potential insomnia but equally hate the zombie.
God we get a shit deal as women !

Galway girl, I think you hit on the solution when you were talking about cannabis, but if you live somewhere it's viewed with hostility then I'd stop trying to use antidepressants for sleep, leave them to sort your mood and get some benzos just for a short course, that could get you a few nights sleep.
Obviously that is only my opinion as a woman with menopause.
I'm on fluoxetine again because it's the most effective for me, sertraline stopped working after a year but it was never as good anyway, venlafaxine and duloxetine were given after that, I guess my GP only half thought about it at the time. Eventually I got fluoxetine on prescription again, 20mg is the only dose I tolerate, same as in another post. It slightly disturbs my sleep, but not by much.
I use a benzo for sleep occassionally, always afraid of getting addicted I take them very infrequently, but all seem to do the trick. Currently I've got clonazepam, but I've used diazepam and temazepam for the same purpose.
I have all the sleep hygene rules nailed down of course, a strict bedtime being the most important one for me, eat enough in the evening and no caffeine after mid-morning.
