couple questions about taking progesterone vaginally
« on: December 02, 2024, 01:26:21 PM »

I've just started taking 100mg of utrogestan vaginally (plus still 200mg orally). I have a couple questions...

1. There is no capsule coming out the next day(!). Does it dissolve completely or am I storing 65000 capsules inside me? Should I be seeing capsule remnants coming out?

2. I am inserting it as far up as I can with my middle finger. This isn't getting right up to my cervix, is that okay?

3. I keep reading stuff from other women about it being 'messy' - but I don't really seem to be getting any/much of anything coming out the next day as a result of using it. Is that okay? I mean, nothing much more than usual lubrication...

My sleep is doing really well at the moment, I got 8 hours of amazing sleep last night. But it's hard to tell if this is due to where I am in my cycle, getting my thyroid levels up again after having come off thyroid meds and gone back on, or this vaginal P use. It is a bit of extra faff to do this vaginally rather than orally but if it helps sleep more, I'm in...

I think dont worry - if its up its up! I sometimes see more come out on some days and not on others - i think if you are sleeping long hours and not seeing it then that’s a good thing - i dont sleep well and can’t tolerate it so i often see it come out in morning but that’s usually because i have only slept for a few hours !
Lucky you for 8 hours sleep - sounds like it working ok !

Yes you are doing it right and no I didn't get any significant mess either when I used 2 capsules 3 times daily for IVF.

They do dissolve very quickly with the heat of your body.

I used to lay down for 30-45 mins afterwards.

I had no noticeable side effects but clearly I was absorbing it as the treatment worked.

It may be perceived as more messy if the user is not accustomed to normal lubrication.

Ditto what others have said.

I don't see any capsule debris or much discharge.

I've switched from trying to take 2 orally to 1 vaginally.  I noticed a sleep affect on the first couple of days vaginally but it's not as good as taking 2 orally (except that half the time I didn't tolerate it well orally so I didn't sleep because of the other symptoms 🙄 )

Ok thanks folks. bombshell, I think if you were taking it for IVF you were taking Cyclogest pessaries? Which are designed to be used in the vagina and kinda waxy soft so they dissolve?

It's the utrogestan capsules which I don't know if I should be seeing come out somehow.

I wondered about putting one in a glass of warm water to see if they dissolve totally  ;D  ;D

I had cyclogest (like waxy bullets) on my first cycle and utrogestan capsules on my second. Neither was messy or caused me any problems and the capsule just melts, it never came back out that I saw.

I was actually surprised to learn people were taking utrogestan orally when I became interested in menopause.

Although one time I accidentally swallowed one as I was taking other meds at the same time 😂
