Utrogestan and fem7 conti..help
« on: November 20, 2024, 08:31:48 AM »

Hello, wise people, anyone help...on fem7 conti had 100mgs utrogestan added for past 3 months to try and stop bleeding every 24 days...like clockwork! PMS like symptoms just before, bleeding, bloating, weight gain...4lbs in a day!! Not keen on the extra progesterone side effects..tvs scan and biopsy done and OK. What are my options other than stopping hrt as suggested by GP. Keen to protect bones and kidneys due to family history etc

You have tons of options.

What have you tried already?

As your investigations are all normal there's no point continuing to take micronised progesterone on top of the combined patch.

It isn't even the best progestogen for bleed control.

First off are your patches staying on properly for the 7 days? This is quite a stretch and can often explain bleeding problems as patch loss or dehiscence results in inconsistent hormone delivery.

All options welcome. Patch not always staying on as I would hope..
Swim a lot! Have been avoiding Mirena but do wonder if this might be worth a try.

Patches aren't great if you swim - or even if you workout regularly/shower daily -there must be hundreds of them floating about in swimming pools.

I don't even know how anyone keeps a patch on for 7 days even with an adhesive dressing over the top, and I would address the inconsistent delivery first, either changing patch more regularly or switching to tablets (ideally) or gel.

If you have no specific reasons why the IUS isn't suitable this would probably be the best thing to try.

Otherwise you could take either desogestrel 150mcg or slynd 4mg daily as your progestin, alongside your estrogen of choice.

I finally succumbed gave in to to a mirena after 3 years of bleeding and countless investigations whilst on evorel conti. It stopped the bleeding for me and I don't seem to have a any major side effects.

Thanks all, other conditions limit my choices so am on the list for a hysteroscopy and mirena. Hoping this sorts things and good to hear it has worked for some...have only heard horror stories so far
