Soreness
« on: November 17, 2024, 05:24:07 PM »

Hi
First post here. I’ve been using Vagirux for about 2 years and have suddenly suffered from sticky vaginal discharge. When I stop using the Vagirux the discharge goes away but I get very sore particularly around the urethral opening. I’ve been using Replens as well.
Should I do a week of Vagirux or maybe Vagifem and leave off the Replens, or stick with Replens and leave off the Vagirux?
I’m not sure which is worse the discharge or the soreness. Probably the soreness. I’d be grateful for your thoughts/advice
Thanks

How long have you been using Replens?  I personally wouldn't recommend it as it's full of chemicals. I would do a reload and then up the dosage for a while until you're comfortable again. You don't mention how many vagirux you're taking a week but if you've been ok on it for 2 years you may just need to use more a week. You could also ask for Estriol cream for external use and also around the urethra daily. I use this and Vagifem.
The discharge is probably the residue from the fillers used in vagirux and because you're dry they are not flushing out and causing irritation. Perhaps try a gentler moisturiser, YES and Silk are popular.

How often do you use VA treatment on its own?  Replens ........ YUK. That product won't replace oestrogen lost so put it at the back of the cupboard ;-)

Using every night may be the way to go for at least a week.  Let us know how U get on?

Exactly what Dierdre says but most importantly don't stop the oestrogen treatment otherwise your symptoms will get worse.

Thank you for your replies. I was using Vagirux twice a week successfully until a couple of months ago when the discharge started -yellow and sticky, not very pleasant. The Dr told me to use every day but to be honest the discharge just got worse (vaginal swabs hadn’t picked anything up) I saw a different (male) Dr who gave me the Replens but as soon as I started the Vagirux again the discharge started again. I’ve actually got some vagifem because I asked GP for it for holidays as I don’t mind reusable but it’s not the easiest to clean when away.
Anyway last night I used a vagifem and no Replens today and so far so good. I’ll use it for a week and ask for it permanently if the discharge doesn’t return.
I’ll also see my local pharmacist (who is generally very helpful) about Sylk and Yes.
Thank you again

?? vagifem ?? is a pessary  :-\.  I have 'ovestin/estriol' which is inserted via an applicator which is easily washed with hot soapy water and air dried.

Many don't have success with 'vagirux' [which sounds like a caviar to me  ::)].

Keep the replens away from the body ;-) I'm surprised that GPs even suggest using it.  Often it's the fillers that cause symptoms.

Sometimes the vagina/vulva need a boost so a reload of 5-7 nights is required.  Let us know how you get on.

Hi CLKD (and others)
Can I ask .. your estriol applicator.. does it have a dosage mark? Mine has nothing and is opaque Been told there should be a red mark about 1 inch in to avoid using too much
The instructions say fill the applicator till it stops but I’ve been told you only need to use about and inch of cream So confused of the correct dose.

My 'ovestin' opaque applicator/dispensor has a red mark, not as much as an inch.  One can't really use 'too much' ;-).  I also slar a little around the outer labia/vulva too.

I also read that 'replens' lasts for 3 days  :-\ whereas many of us require nightly applications and some will leave the body either by gravity or when bathing.
