Heart rate spikes
« on: November 18, 2024, 01:14:28 PM »

For the last couple of months I’ve noticed huge heart rate spikes when doing very moderate exercise eg. Just walking to work. At times it’s registered 200bpm on my Fitbit. Gp has done all the basic tests (thyroid, anemia etc) but all have come back fine. Was prescribed bisoprolol, but has made me feel awful so going to wean myself off it. One dr did suggest it could be perimenopause (I’m 48). Has anyone else had this? Anything that could help? I’m also awaiting a 24hr monitor but wait time is several months!

Ditch the FitBIT!

:welcomemm:  If your GP has done basic blood tests and all are fine, then it may be that you are going into peri - those years B4 the final bleed = menopause.  When we become aware of strange symptoms.

What R your periods up to?

Periods have been quite irregular for the last year or so…
I have tried ignoring the Fitbit but I can tell when my heart rate is escalating as I also feel light headed. It all makes me feel quite anxious, which probably exacerbates the problem!

Yep and yep.  How is your diet overall, it may be time to take notes of everything that you eat/drink over a 24/7 for the next 5 days.  Sometimes during peri women become intolerant to things like alcohol  :(  ::) or find that allergies become worse.

Also buy a home blood pressure kit - take your BP every morning B4 you eat , the best of 3 readings and jot them down.  Many have white coat syndrome in the surgery, my husband is the calmest guy that you will meet and his BP goes through the roof in the Surgery  :o ::)

Many of these 'gadgets' are known to increase worry/heart rate/anxiety ........ which is why I've never been drawn into the latest technology - I won't even frequent car parks that don't take cash  ;D

Did your GP test vitamin D, B12 and folate?   These can often be low in ladies of our age and can cause issues with heartrate.

I'm having similar issues with rapid tachy hear rate and I'm waiting for these bloods to be done

They tested B12 which was fine. Vit D test was declined by the test lab, but gp is sending me for more tests this week and hopefully it’ll be done! Don’t think they’ve done folate but I’ll check.
Hope you get some useful results too.

Hi there,

Yes this started for me in 2020, I would also jump from 60 to 180 in seconds at rest, which made me feel awful. All tests were fine, echo/monitor just showed spikes of tachycardia.
Bisoprolol didn’t agree with me too, I was given Ivabradine after heart tests and this controlled it nicely. 4 years on and I’m now out of peri and settled on my HRT. No episodes for 14 months.  I’ve started weaning myself off the ivabradine slowly.
A handy tip I found useful was to carry a bottle of freezing water with me everywhere. Drinking very cold water & getting off your feet, resets the Vagus nerve (don’t think I’m spelling it right!) and will calm your heart rate.
