Upset, angry, emotional hrt not helping
« on: November 20, 2024, 11:25:55 PM »

Hi all,

I've already posted a couple of times but think I just need to vent a little.

I'm so rapt for the women that have been helped with hrt for depression and anxiety, however regardless of the tweeks made, increasing dose, taking progesterone vaginally for about 2 months with no change, I'm at a complete loss.

I went to respite for a week, I'm very unwell and struggling to even talk (I'm usually a chatterbox and outgoing) I can barely say hi, to someone if they acknowledge me.

They say it's your hormones and your not going out of your mind, however, this is 100% what going out of your mind is, it's just that we know that it's prob hormones.

I haven't stopped crying and wailing in emotional hell for months and months.  I'm so angry at the Dr who said I'd see improvements along the way and it'd deff help.   :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

I'm so sorry you are not getting relieve from symptoms.
2months is still quite early and there will be lots of tweaks that can be made to your plan, but they should be given at least 6wks at a time.
Have they done blood tests to check thyroid, vit levels etc?
Do you have any other health conditions? Perimenopause may make these worse.

I'm in peri and honestly, hrt didn't help me despite trying it for 14 months. The only thing that helped my severe anxiety was seeing a psychiatrist who get me on the right combination of medication. The anxiety hasn't completely gone but it has dialled down by about 80% which means I can now live in the present x

I really feel for you Katie as I am also finding that HRT isn't making a major difference to my mental health. I completely relate to that feeling that even though you know this is very likely hormonal you still feel you're losing your mind. It's frightening and overwhelming but I've found a few things that might help: write down your thoughts/worries no matter how jumbled they seem and get them out of your head to stop ruminating, magnesium  glycinate and magnesium rich foods, talk to someone you trust don't bottle the thoughts up, exercise (difficult in this weather I know though!) and finally know that this 100% is not permanent. It's not your fault you feel like this and it's really important not to blame yourself. Big hug X

Hi Katie,

What are you taking?

Hormone therapy isn't a magic wand but can make a significant difference if optimal.

Testosterone plays a major role in mood and psychological wellbeing and is often overlooked. Its addition can also anecdotally make progesterone more tolerable.

Sorry you are still suffering.

I don’t take HRT, but instead, I’ve found magnesium gummies and spray help me to sleep a bit better and this in turn helps my mood. I also take a drop of CBD oil in the morning before work and that perks me up and reduces the high anxiety.

Unfortunately HRT isn’t always the silver bullet, But as bomb mentioned, it does need to be the right combination.

Are you just under the care of your GP for menopause?

Hi disco,
I use the Harrogate magnesium spray. It’s quite expensive, but last night it did nothing 🙁

The gummies are Novomins magnesium and taste nice! I’ve also bought their menopause gummies too. I don’t think they are doing much either as slept appallingly last night!

Back to the drawing board x
