Body aches after period
« on: November 12, 2024, 06:19:49 PM »

Hi all,

I've always struggled with flu like symptoms towards the end of my period. I started oestrogel daily and utrogestan for 12 days in October and had high hopes for this month's period feelings but I feel worse than ever! I'm on day 3 of my heavy periods but feel like I have got the flu, body aches, tinnitus, hot and cold. I know I haven't caught anything as this is a regular monthly annoying thing, part of the reason I started hrt to hopefully sort out my hormones. Does anyone else get this? Has anyone found after 3 months this settles with the hrt kicking in? I was wondering if daily utrogestan for days 1 to 25 would be better than just for 12 days of my cycle as my GP said I can take it either way. I'm 49 and have regular periods still. Thanks all

Hi Queensland 22. I developed monthly flu like symptoms when I began the peri-menopause. I still get it when my hormones are out of balance. It could be that because you've just started HRT your hormones need to balance out, perhaps you'll need to tweek the amount of Estrogen and progesterone until you get the symptoms under control. The symptoms we get during per-menopause are due to the fluctuation in hormones, so I guess yours may be fluctuating as you get used to the HRT? I'm not sure but I know my flu symptoms are an indication my estrogen level is too low. I guess if you always experienced it at the end of your period, that's when estrogen is lowest.

Why not consider some form of menstrual suppression like the combined pill taken continuously, or a suppressive progestogen such as desogestrel alongside your estrogen.

Nobody has to have periods at all unless they want to, and if you feel unwell with yours, why keep having them?

Hi Bombsh3ll, I would LOVE to not have periods, such a waste of time, pain, etc. Can I take the combined pill at 51, (but looking good  ;). I'm really intolerant of progesterone, (Uterogestan), tho, so I've never taken a contraception pill.
