New to HRT…odd symptom
«

Hi all
I’m new to here and to HRT (been on it 8 days)
From the second day I’ve had an awful cramping in my right leg only, like I’ve pulled my calf muscle when walking and aches and throbs constantly when resting or at night
My doctor has taken me off HRT, been off it 4 days now, but it hasn’t gone away!
Never had anything like this before, is this a symptoms of HRT? Will it go away?

What format was your HRT in, oral?
Is your calf hot, or red, or swollen? Any history of blood clots for you or a close family member? I don’t mean to alarm, but I’d be inclined to go back to your GP and ask for a Doppler scan just to be on the safe side.

Morning. What explanation did your GP give about taking U off HRT, was any other method of delivery discussed?? I would ask for a referral to a dedicated menopause clinic. Peri - which symptom would you like to ease first? Some find that keeping amood/food/symptom diary of use.
Also sfressto - good points,

My leg isn’t swollen or red or hot
Doctor took me off the HRT as I’d only been in it 7 days and this started the day after I started taking it so took me off it to see if it would ease off and then try a different type of HRT
It’s not eased off and been off them 4 days now
I was put on HRT because of my moods and feeling ‘dead inside’ basically
I didn’t really have any physical symptoms

Take a list of queries with you to the appt.?
Do U elevate your legs at night? I had restless legs for years, bananas cured the feelings.

Well thought I’d give an update
Gp begrudgingly sent me for an emergency scan despite ‘not having any real DVT symptoms’
Turns out I have a DVT in my calf and now on blood thinners for 3 months

Wow, so sorry it did turn out to be that, but so good it was found quickly. I can’t believe the GP said you had no real signs! Get well soon. X

Thanks everyone
To be fair apart from pain and then the eventual high blood test I didn’t have any swelling, redness or heat
Even I was shocked when they said I had one!
Not a clue what caused it either but at the minute I’ve been told to start back on the HRT 🙄

Hello Peri_shiftwork and welcome to the forum.
I am pleased that you went back to your GP and eventually got the right treatment.
You said that you can start back on HRT, would that be a patch or gel? I understand that these are safer for ladies in your position.
Take care and please keep us updated.

Sorry that should have said NOT to start back on HRT at the moment
I was on estrogen gel and progesterone tablets before and now they’ve given me patches for if I do start again
