Hi All, hope everyone is good.

I had my first appointment today to talk to the nurse about possibly starting HRT due to a list of symptoms I’ve been having for the past 4 months which normal bloods/deficiency/thyroid tests could not explain. The nurse said that im on the young side for her to deal with it (I am 37) but she took my bloods to test FSH and oestrogen levels and scheduled me an appointment in two weeks with a doctor (female) who will discuss the results with me and see where we are going forward. She said it’s not a no for HRT but they just need to test for primary ovarian failure first as that may be causing the symptoms, in which case HRT would be the treatment for that. If all comes back normal I don’t know if I’ll still be allowed to try HRT? She said they normally start with a 3 month trial and if it helps then great, if not then you may aswell not be on it if it’s not giving any benefit which I understand. I just don’t understand why so many medical professionals dismiss this because of age when clearly if you research it, perimenopause can start in mid 30s and even earlier.  Feeling a bit  today xxx

Hi, I just wanted to say don't overlook the combined pill as an option - this can be both easier to obtain and offer superior quality of life in younger women vs menopause hormone therapy, even if you don't need contraception.

The pill is strong enough to suppress your own cycle so you don't need to bleed at all if you take it continuously like I do, and gets rid of all the hormonal ups and downs.

Both bleeding and hormonal fluctuations can be exacerbated by sequential HRT which is what is typically prescribed if still having periods.

Obviously go for the option that suits you best but it's important to know there is more than one choice.

Just to add to the combined pill suggestion, you could look into Zoely - which is a combined pill with body identical estrogen. So, the same estrogen as in HRT.

Hi and thank you both. I have recently (4 weeks ago) came off the combined pill which was Rigevidon, as I wanted to see what my “real” periods were doing rather than having a hormonal bleed each month and not getting a true picture of whether they were normal or not. I had been on it since Jan 2023 a few months after my daughter was born, and started having these symptoms back in the summer even being on the pill so that didn’t really help me. Symptoms are no better or worse without being on the pill in my opinion although I know it’s only been a month. My first proper period has just happened and it was 3 days and very light, I’ve never experienced that before as before I went on the pill my periods were 6/7 days long and medium to heavy. Even on the pill it was medium flow and always lasted 7 days. I’ll keep a track of them just incase they are irregular.

The other combined pills use synthetic estradiol which is not a replacement for your own body's estrogen. Only Zoely (and Qlaira) use body identical estradiol as is in HRT.
