HRT & Prolonged Bleeding
« on: November 02, 2024, 11:20:06 AM »

Hi - hoping for some guidance so apologies if this has been asked before.
I have had over a year of trying different HRT to help heavy bleeding. I had the Mirena removed 4 weeks ago as it made things worse for me, I am now on continuous hrt - sandrena & utrogestan (200mg daily). The constant bleeding from mirena stopped for 6 days after it was removed then it started again I am on day 13 bleeding some days heavier than others. Is this normal does anyone know? Do I need to be more patient with all this it really is draining?

:welcomemm:  Do U C a Nurse Practitioner at your Surgery?  What has been suggested, hpefully some1 will be along with knowledge.  There is a drug to ease heavy continual bleeding but this may be part of the initial HRT start up.

Thank you I have been seeing a gynaecologist & have had the scans etc all seems fine. They always say 3-6 months to settle down but was not expecting to have such long continuous bleeding. I’m not sure if it also takes time for body to settle after mirena removal. This peri-menopause is no fun  ::)

The combined pill is often a better option to manage heavy menstrual bleeding in perimenopause.

I take it continuously and don't bleed at all.

If this isn't suitable, there is also the option of taking 2 desogestrel (cerazette) pills daily as your progestogen.

This can also achieve amenorrhea in the majority.

Micronised progesterone has a lot of benefits but is probably the least effective agent for management of heavy bleeding.
