Meno Expert Kathie Cooke
« on: November 02, 2024, 09:38:15 AM »

Hello ladies.

I have just come across the site of Kathie Cooke which contains a chapter entitled Options When Avoiding HRT.  A list of alternatives are mentioned and there is advice on the best AD to try for breast cancer survivors.

I am not sure if I am allowed to post the website address but anyone interested can Google for more information. It appears that Kathie Cooke offers appointments as well so that may be of help to some ladies.

Wishing you all well.

I don't do facebook but I was able to read a post from a poor woman who felt bullied into stopping HRT and is now incontinent with hair loss and hot flushes.  She stopped HRT 3 years ago and now wants to restart but Cooke said that comes with risks which is not strictly true.

I'm afraid I didn't think her advice was great and I notice the woman didn't respond.  That said, she might have some good non hormonal suggestions for women who are unable to take HRT.

Mary, I’ve been on Cooke’s website this morning. Alternatives to HRT include a variety of different drugs. For example, clonidine for flushes and sertraline for anxiety. Also CBT and talking therapies.

I think in the absence of HRT, women need to find their own way. I wouldn’t want to spend another £200 to see KC ( who isn’t far from my location) to be told that anti depressants are the most probable option.

I have taken amitriptyline for years for nerve pain, which in turn assisted with sleep. I think this latest diagnosis had ramped up the anxiety to another level which is why it isn’t working as well.

My cancer meds are heavy duty, brain fog and fatigue being key side effects. I am  loathed to take anything else which will contribute to this.

Come on medics, we need something better than anti depressants surely? Or perhaps this is as good as it gets?

Hello again ladies.

I thought that Kathie Cooke might be worth investigating for some ladies.

On her website I found an article headed Options When Avoiding HRT. A few things were mentioned and she said that SSRI ADs can interact with Tamoxifen but breast cancer survivors can take the AD  Venlafaxine which can significantly reduce hot flushes, improve fatigue, mental health and sleep disturbance.

Btw thank you for asking about me ladies. I continue on my mood merry go round but for now I am sticking with my current HRT regime. Morning tiredness is bothering me so I may experiment with an earlier bedtime to see if that helps at all.

Wishing you all well ladies and take care.
