Hi all, as the title states. I’m on continuous low dose HRT and have been for quite a few years now. 60 years old. Had Monty random bleeding about 3 years ago - had vaginal ultrasound and found a couple of polyps that were removed there and then. All fine ever since. Then the past few months I have a bit of blood on the tissue after wiping after sex. Has anyone else had this. I am waiting on my referral for another transvaginalultrasound… but just would like to hear if anyone has else has had this and the outcome please? Smears are also up to date (last one about 2-3 years ago). Words of wisdom would be great please thanks so much x

If it is just after intercourse and you have negative smears and are postmenopausal, the likeliest cause is vaginal atrophy.

This can make the tissues very thin and fragile, which leads to bleeding after minimal trauma or friction ie intercourse.

I would suggest starting vaginal estrogen right away. This will also make your transvaginal ultrasound a lot easier and more comfortable.

It is not something I have personal experience with as I am not sexually active, however many women find lubricants really helpful for penetrative sex (this is in addition to regular use of topical estrogen).

Just concerned that there’s something in my uterus! Is postcoital bleeding usually linked with uterus?

It could be that you have another polyp, they have a habit of coming back, but just a thought on my part.

I am not medical but I would say it would.

Online it seems that this type of bleeding can be quite common in post menopausal women.. hopefully other members on here might be able to speak from their experiences too

Just wanted to give an update for anyone looking at this in the future.. had my scan this morning and a cervical polyp was found immediately and removed. Thanks so much to all of you that replied x

These can be very anxious times so it's good news that it was resolved asap and you can get back to normal
