Should I move when I take the Utrogestan?
« on: October 18, 2024, 08:27:34 PM »

Many thanks for any advice you might be able to offer. I know some of you are very knowledgeable.

I started taking Oestrogel and Utrogestan (sequential) a few months ago. I have been tolerating both very well and my low mood and sleep has much approved. I am on 2 pumps of gel and 200mg of Utrogestan orally for two weeks. The GP told me to start the Utrogestan 7 days after the Oestrogel. However, days 15-28 are not isync with my own cycle so I am currently bleeding when I start taking the Utrogestan and nothing when it's finished- although I do feel quite bloated.

My periods are still fairly regular at every approx 26-28 days. My questions are: should I move the Utrogestan to start taking it 14 days after my next period? Even though I still have regular periods, could I take the Utrogestan in a continuous manner by taking 100mg daily rather than 200mg for two weeks only? The progesterone definitely helps with my sleep. Thank you.

I found it better if it was in sync with my own cycle so IIWY I'd adjust the hrt cycle to fit your own. The first day of your bleed is day 1 the you take utro days 15-26. As you're still regular if you want to take utro more often you might be better with the 25 days out of 28 day cycle as this allows for a bleed. If you take it continually now you're very likely to find you bleed.

Absolutely you can shift it to sync with your own cycle. You would take it for the two weeks before your period.

It is also perfectly ok to take it continuously, provided you accept that this MIGHT lead to a more erratic bleeding pattern, however you may consider this is worth it for example if it helps you sleep taking it every night, or if you found the 200mg dose intolerable but are ok on 100mg.
