New member not sure what to do?
« on: October 10, 2024, 10:56:01 AM »

Hello and thanks for letting me join. I am 56 years old and currently on Evorel Sequi patches. These do manage my symptoms well however I get heavy periods every 28 days. I'm not sure if this is due to the patches or not? I did try coming off them a year or so ago however still was getting a period as regular as clockwork. Will I continue to get a period whilst on Evorel Sequi or will they eventually stop? I am thinking of coming off them again to see if I have stopped but will confess nervous about returning symptoms. I did get chronic migraines which meant giving up my career. HRT has minimised these and given me my life back. I have had enough of heavy periods and just want them to end. Thank you for any support.

If you want to be bleed free your best option is a mirena. I found my bleeds got much lighter and shorter when my own hormones were no longer contributing. As long as you're on a sequi regime you will probably get some bleeding as the lining has to shed. If you had regular periods a year it's unlikely you're meno now, some people aren't until their early 60s.

Hi Caro. Good advice from Sheila about the Mirena. When you're on hrt it's always difficult to work out whether your bleeds are natural or caused purely by the withdrawal of the progesterone containing patch. I found that my withdrawal bleeds were light though so did feel different to a natural period. Let us know how you get on.

Hi, thanks for the responses. It does help to hear from others. To be honest I feel like a rabbit in the headlight sometimes. I don't know what to do so end up doing nothing.  I do worry about giving up HRT as it has given me my life back. I sure would love to stop the periods though! I will explore the mirena further I think.
