Reassurance needed please as unexpected spotting
« on: October 12, 2024, 06:01:52 PM »

Hi ladies,

I am on Femosten  and have increased my estrogen and am now on 2/10 dosage. I have never had any unexpected spotting/ bleeding. I started the increased dose September 14th and I am now into day 6 of the progesterone part, and have been spotting for 2 days. I never spot. My bleed always starts on day 2 of estrogen on the next pack of tablets which should be just over a weeks time.
I suppose the extra estrogen is causing the spotting?
Do I call the NHS meno clinic who agreed me upping the dose ?
What do I do?  Should I be worried?
Meno anxiety is a bit high at the moment, so any words of wisdom would be very gratefully received.

If you change dosage it can take up to 6 months to settle.

Please don't be worried, there is a clear explanation for this spotting - you have just increased your dose of hormone therapy!

This is NOT the same situation as someone having unexplained, chronic, irregular bleeding which CAN be a sign of cancer (but even then usually isn't).

It upsets me the way women are made to feel panic stricken when our female organs do what they are designed to do, and what they have done for decades, in the presence of estrogen and progesterone (or their analogues).

Like dotty says, any spotting or bleeding within 3-6 months of a change in therapy is nothing to be concerned about and certainly doesn't warrant investigation or to stop your HRT.

After this, your GP MIGHT recommend tweaking your therapy or a scan if needed.

Thanks Ladies,

I suppose I should wait and see then, and hopefully it will stop. I do have fibroids although they don't cause any issues. I have had a bit of groin ache also. I will diarise everything and give it a few weeks and see. I may just reduce a smidge and see where i am perhaps.  I was worried about telling my GP or the meno clinic in case they sent me off down a rabbit hole of tests especially since the high doses hoo haa going on. Even though I am only on a medium dose.  I have always had bloods done via medichecks and my estrogen has always been 300 ish. I had it done recently and it was 500 - never been that high. So it is probably that.

Thank you again - you can feel so alone x
