HRT and constant brown staining
« on: September 29, 2024, 08:09:09 AM »

Hello ladies, I’m on Evorel Conti patches and have been for a year now. For months now I’ve had brown staining just about every week and it’s driving me nuts. I cut the patch in half to reduce the dosage and it seemed to stop the discharge however, having gone back to the full patch again, the staining has come back. Not sure what to do because this can’t be normal surely? I’ve read the patches shouldn’t be halved which is why I went back to the full one. Just wonder what other people are experiencing with Evorel.

Have you had this checked out? Vaginal examination to rule out any infection would be a good idea and are you up to date with your  cervical smears?

Yes I mentioned this to the gp and she said to keep an eye on it. 🤷‍♀️ My last smear was done a year ago and it was fine. No sign of it when I halved the patch though. Could it be the dosage? I’m on the minimum dose.

I'm not sure about dosage. I had constant bleeding on conti hrt for over six months so reverted to sequi. I didn't get brown staining though. Hopefully someone else can advise on dosage

I had constant brown staining for months on conti hrt so went back to sequi. It drove me mad, I hardly had any proper bleeding but the staining was virtually every week. I was on conti for 7 months and I could probably count on one hand how many days were stain free.

I had this at the end of each period: 7-10 days of heavy bleeding and excruciating pains, 24 hours without anything followed by brown staining.  Probably due to not enough hormones to continue with the bleed.  Until the next month.  Normal for me.

Were you meno (1 year without a bleed) before you started hrt? If not your body might not be ready for a conti regime yet. Personally I would want a scan to make sure there isn't a reason for it (fibroids, polyps, thickened lining). You could increase the amount of progestogen you use but that might mean an oestrogen only patch with eg a mirena or utrogestan. A mirena is usually the best to control problem bleeding.

Yes I was more than a year without a bleed when I started. I thought by now things would’ve settled down. Is annoying!!
