Internal jitters, shakiness, nervousness
« on: September 21, 2024, 03:31:44 PM »

Hello Ladies,
Does anyone experience internal jitters, shakiness and nervousness, best way I can describe what I am feeling. It’s like my nervous system is on overdrive. I deal with anxiety and bad health anxiety which has gotten much worse post menopause, but the last year or so it’s amplified. I have had CT scans, MRI, Ultrasound, all come back negative, all labs come back okay. I have never taken oral HRT, just topical estradiol since my total hysterectomy in 2012. I am 61 years old but feel like I am much older. I can’t seem to get a handle on what I am feeling. Does anyone else feel like this or have any advice on how you handle this, or is this something you learn to deal with for this phase of life?

Hello Cass63

I could have written your post!
The internal jitters etc arrived for me in post meno and I hate them so much.

I am on systemic HRT, 1 mg Sandrena gel and 100 mg of Utrogestan, I don't us anything topically because I can cope with the mild VA symptoms that I have.

I wish I could tell you how to get rid of these awful feelings but sadly I haven't found an answer yet. My nurse practitioner thinks that if I get my blood Oestradiol levels up to about 200 pmol/L this may help. My latest blood test was 139pmol/L so a way to go yet.

I have just been referred to a psychiatrist who is likely going to test me for Alzheimer's and this may include the tests that you have had.

The only suggestion I have is to practice deep and relaxing breathing techniques as these have helped me a little this afternoon ( I am having a bad day). I also find that being tired makes coping with these sensations much harder to deal with but I guess that goes for everything!

You have my complete sympathy and you are most certainly not alone.

Wishing you well and sending hugs.

K.

Yes, i experience these, mainly in the morning. I’m depleted of oestrogen; not allowed any due to cancer I have. No advice, just solidarity and sympathy. It’s a god awful time of life!

Maybe you need systemic oestrogen?

I’m the same as Dotty, Cass, the weird internal jitters/hand tremors stopped pretty much as soon as I started HRT patches so, for me, it most definitely was caused by low oestrogen.

Hi … yes me too ! It started when I was 52 just as my periods were stopping and been going on for 2 years. I don’t take HRT . It has started easier just recently but every now and then I get it back quite severe. I had all test done and luckily nothing bad .
My primary problem now is chronic leg pain and tingling in feet and hands especially at bed time. I struggle to stand up when I get out of bed in a morning.
It’s good to share as it makes you feel that you’re not on your own. 2 years ago I used to go to bed crying as I was so scared and this forum was the only thing that kept me sane … so thank you ladies.

Yes, l had the jitters too. Started about 10 years ago and has finally gone, but only in the last year. If you Search the issue, you will find a lot of posts on it (a few from me too!)  I have never taken HRT, so can’t comment on that as a cure, but l just learned to accept it.

I wonder..

Why do you choose to suffer..?

You could make it much better with just one patch!

Hi,
Aw, I really feel for you. I too have these awful debilitating symptoms: Do you find that every 2 wks your anxiety levels are through the roof?
I cry a lot  -  and this does help!

I've just started writing down how I feel - ( not every day) using small structured steps; example:

Write 3 words to describe how you feel when you get out of bed. (Write positive words too)

Write 3 sentences nxt to the 3 words example how you could try and aliviate the negative feelings.

Use coloured pens  -  it helps.
