A Return of Symptoms When On HRT
« on: September 07, 2024, 06:52:16 AM »

Have you had a return of symptoms after being on HRT for a while?

My perimenopause symptoms have come back and I'm really struggling. It's like having PND and more. I've got an appointment at a menopause clinic in two days time to go through this.

I've been on HRT for 9 months and it's really helped me up until the last couple of weeks, when symptoms started creeping back. I'm on Utrogestan (vaginally cyclical) and Oestrogel (went up to 3 pumps from 2.5 a couple of days ago). But no improvement yet with the Oestrogel increase. Is it too early to expect improvement with a half pump increase?

I'm 52 this month. So due to my age I may have had a sudden drop or cessation of my own natural hormones. Hence the return of symptoms?

It'd be good to hear from anyone who has experienced this. Just needing some encouragement and support that this can be sorted out.

Thank you x

Morning,  I use Estradot patches, I'm 54, peri, started at the end of May on 50 patch with a treatment plan to go to 75 at 4-6 weeks if still symptomatic.

I went up to the 75 a couple of weeks ago as I was becoming quite symptomatic mid cycle.   I thought it was the progesterone but the lovely ladies here suggested it was more likely that my own oestrogen levels were dipping mid cycle which is why I was more aware of it at that point.  I've only just started progesterone for this month so it's a bit wait and see but I do think the 75 is helping generally

I don't know how quickly you'd feel the benefit of gel, I feel the patch benefit very quickly.  Sounds like maybe you need a bit more still.

Good luck

Make sure  you're absorbing the gel. I went from 2 to 4 pumps myself for a few months and when got bloods taken my oestrodial was only 120.

I've had to increase twice as my own supply has declined. It isn't unusual at all for this to happen. A couple of days probably isn't long enough to tell you if this increase is enough.

It's very common to need more - and you can also stop absorbing the gel.

You can increase up to 4 pumps very easily and should be allowed to do that according to symptoms only, no blood tests needed.
