Hot flush all night
« on: September 03, 2024, 06:39:31 AM »

Hi - Have been off HRT for 4 months and rather than just on/off hot flushes at night, I seem to be having an intense feeling of heat all over from inside and lasts for hours. I have no quilt, windows all open and still can’t get rid of the heat.
I am exhausted 😩 and the anxiety is getting worse because of this, seems to be a complete vicious circle.
Cannot get in with my GP until 26th Sept, so just wondered if anyone else has experienced this before my anxiety goes through the roof!
I am nearly 60, was on HRT for 7 years and came off due to LCIS - I wasn’t told I had to but it scared me.
Would be grateful for any feedback 😔

If you weren't told you had to come off HRT, why did you? I'd go back on it, if I were you. Why do this to yourself?

Even if a woman has estrogen positive breast cancer it doesn't mean the estrogen caused the cancer. You have had these hormones in your body all your life. They are not going to suddenly start causing cancer when cancer rates are lower the younger you are (when you have higher hormone rates).

Why increase your risk of all kinds of future diseases by coming off HRT just because you are concerned about one disease which HRT isn't even a risk factor for...??

So much anxiety out there about taking HRT, it's unreal.

The anxiety is probably due to oestrogen deficiency  too. Anxiety and insomnia were my worst symptoms. Perhaps you need to dicuss the pros and cons with your doctor?

It is a difficult decision one as my mum had BC at age 70, she was on HRT for 20 years and the consultant said it was due to her being on it so long.
I know it doesn’t cause it but oestrogen can make things grow faster. So confused and feeling rubbish  :'(

That's rubbish scaremongering Oliversut, on the part of your mum's doctor.

The life-time risk for breast cancer is 1 in 8 women. Just because someone happens to take HRT and gets breast cancer, does not mean the HRT caused the breast cancer. Because otherwise 1 in 8 women (not on HRT) wouldn't be getting it. BC is very common.

Estrogen is actually protective. Even the WHI found that women who were on estrogen-only HRT had a LOWER risk of breast cancer than women not on HRT.... There is a whole chapter on this in the book "Estrogen Matters" by Bluming.

Thank you Joziel, due to having LCIS my risk is higher - I will speak to my GP about it.
