High Estrogen but hot flushes are worse.
« on: August 10, 2024, 11:06:54 AM »

I had a 50 mcg pellet inserted about 8 weeks ago having changed from Estrogen (3 pumps)
The 50 pellet didnt  seem to be hitting the spot so 4 weeks ago another 25 mcg pellet was added.

I now have a blood level of 677 p/mols but my hot flushes are 10 times worse since the additional pellet. They’re are relentless, all day long.

Could it be that my levels are now too high and that this is causing the issue?

It's probably just the sudden change in estrogen levels and your body is adjusting...

677pmol isn't THAT high. I mean, a pre-menopausal woman during ovulation would have results up to 1200pmol.

Thank you for replying.
My levels used to be around 450 p/mols on 3 pumps of Estrogel with no hot flushes. I only changed from Estrogel because the new packaging didn’t make me feel as well.

Hi Joesmum,

Are you peri meno? Just wondering if the blood result is a spike or fluctuation rather than what it is most of the time?

I agree, one thing you could try is to test again during your period - when your own E is likely to be lowest. That will give you a better indication of what you're getting from HRT....

I had a total hysterectomy and oopherectomy nearly 15 years ago.
I have found that different delivery methods don’t necessarily compare. ie 100mg patch Versus 4 Pumps of Estrogel.
I am wondering if these implants are different to ones I had 10 years ago?

It’s a bit of a strange one.  So your bloods will all be from the implant, they didn’t leave any ovary at all?

The only thing you can do I guess is see what happens to your symptoms when the implant is reducing, again that varies from person to person.

Do you have any other meno symptoms back or is it just the hot flushes?

Hello Joesmum

Unfortunately I can't help you but I have experienced being symptomatic despite a similar amount of Oestrogen.

When my  levels were over 600 I felt normal for a time but my mood would dip and I would be overwhelmingly tired and anxious at about 4 pm every day. I was very post meno and using only a small amount of progesterone.

I wonder if you would be better balanced if you added in some progesterone even though it isn't required for womb protection?

As things turned out, the progesterone I was using was so low that I had lots of bleeding and ended up reducing the oestrogen and changing HRT regime. I have often thought that perhaps  a change in Progesterone would have been a better option.  I certainly enjoyed feeling back to normal for large parts of the day.

I am sorry that I can't be of more help but I do sympathise with your predicament, trying to work all this out is exhausting.

Take care.
