:thankyou: CLKD! I wish I could access the full article but they’re charging £50 for the pleasure!

Re vaginal oestrogen - the GP I saw back in June wrote to Gynae for advice. The consultant was of the view that vaginal oestrogen would aggravate the thrush. The GP I saw today was worried it would counteract the thrush treatment.

The swab I took this morning was to check for thrush, as I had no symptoms at all on the day of my smear test (until the pain of the speculum being opened, and the nurse said she could see thrush). I’m itchy about one inch inside. It was a niggly itch this morning. It has progressed rapidly over the last 12 hours and is now extremely itchy and raw/sore. It feels as bad as it did several months ago before starting treatment. Very disappointing as I feel like I’ve made quite a bit of progress in the last month or so.

I’m going to email my meno consultant’s secretary to see if she will be able to discuss this additional problem next month. As a back up I’ve managed to find a private clinic who recognise and treat the condition.

There is not enough communication between medics these days  >:(.  I had a painful area slightly inside on the L side of the vagina on penetration which VA treatment has eased.  Is your itch on both sides?  Can U reach to scratch or treat it with KY Jelly for example?  I've resorted to Savlon or LIVE yoghurt in the past  ::).

Why would VA treatment aggravate thrush, symptoms may be eased when the vagina is moist .  Certainly if the thrush treatment is not keeping the condition under control then a reason should be found. Candida thrives on sugars and can be passed to the vagina from the bowel ........ which is where it lives.

Why did your GP write to a Gynae rather than the menopause consultant for advice?  The Consultant should be able to discuss what ever is causing problems, nothing should be 'additional' as our bodies don't work like that  :D.  And 1 condition can affect all of us as we are finding out ........

How do you feel overall?  Sorry didn't know that one had to pay to read the article  ::).  Let us know how you get on.

The itch was about the first inch inside, all around. When I showered that evening I noticed the itching and sore/raw feeling had spread to the entrance as well. It felt exactly like my previous (confirmed) episodes of thrush, so in desperation I used a Canesten pessary before bed. I started to improve after 24hrs and even more so yesterday.

I got a text message from the surgery yesterday to let me know Monday’s swab was negative! I’m pleased but am left wondering what I was dealing with? For now I’m just glad I’m feeling better but wonder what I’m going to do if this happens again?
