Sorry you're having such a rubbish time.  I have severe anxiety (panic disorder) and OCD - which led to a breakdown at some point in my 30s, hospitalisation, etc.  And yeah, I hear what you say about feeling as if a switch has been flicked.  It's weird.  I also had bad PMS, so don't know whether that meant I was sensitive to hormones or what.

Anyway, is there any chance you could get an appointment with a mental health nurse at your surgery?  Might they be able to prescribe you some insta-acting rescue meds?  Proper rattling with anxiety is exhausting and seems to get right inside my head until I'm spiralling.  It can be a bit difficult to get out of that phase without the help of medication (for me).  Also, you know, because I've been so poorly in the past, it's frightening to think I might end up back there.  As it goes, I haven't, and I think that's because I've been in therapy for 5+ years now.  A recent diagnosis of autism has also helped me to understand how I end up in / can manage OCD loops better.

I think the point I'm trying to make is that the fact you ended up in A&E seems to suggest a mental health medical emergency.  Could be all sorts of causes for this, including low E, but also taking steps to knock it on the head ASAP could be a route you want to go down just to buy yourself some breathing space.

I'm so sorry you are feeling as you are. It's almost certainly hormones and as they fluctuate, so do our anxiety levels.
It sounds to me like you could read up about the vagus nerve and the parasympathetic nervous system. Understanding this helped my anxiety enormously. I also bought (you can get them second hand) a Sensate which is a calming device I swear by. The calmer you are, the easier your symptoms will be to manage - I promise.
Also breathe. The trick here is to work so hard at not allowing the intrusive thoughts in and calm your breathing by counting your in & out breathes. Even just a minute or 2 can be extremely settling. I also found CBT very helpful.
Also, this may sound daft but I find nothing more settling than a soundtrack on Spotify called Tibetan Monk Chants - try lying on your bed, counting your breathes, listening to this and try and bliss out.
I hope something in this response is helpful x

Hi Helen, another Helen here! Totally feel your pain right now. My anxiety and OCD has increased so much over the last year (I’m 50). I keep stopping and starting HRT so I’m not doing myself any favours! 🙈  I’ve just posted about my anxiety and obsessing about HRT!

How long ago did you increase the venlafaxine? I had to go up to 225 to get to a good place, that was 7 years ago and looking back I’m pretty sure it was the beginning of perimenopause! I tried the gel and it really didn’t agree with me, the Evorel patches definitely helped with my anxiety the only problem I’m having now is progesterone intolerance. I have been given Utrogestan which I was going to take vaginally on the hope I can tolerate it better.
