Evorel 25 and utrogestan tablet
« on: August 20, 2024, 09:06:13 PM »

I’ve been using these patches for 4 months now, originally used Evorel 50 combi patch but found the progesterone made me tearful. I’ve experienced weight gain and very irritable moods and am seriously considering stopping the treatment as, apart from VA, these are two of main reasons why I began the HRT in the first place. I also haven’t seen any improvement on the VA either. Anyone else had similar issues?

You would be very unlikely to see improvement in anything with a 25mcg estradiol patch.

My guess is that your weight gain is probably due to untreated menopause rather than caused by either the patch or the progesterone - however the latter can increase appetite and it may be that your progesterone dose is higher than it needs to be for 25mcg estradiol.

I would certainly suggest local treatment of the vagina and vulva with topical estrogen as pessaries and/or cream.

If you do decide to stop systemic hormone therapy you can continue topical vaginal estrogen alone if this is your only or main concern.

Evorel 25 seems low to me.

I was started on 50.  I'm still on 50 but that was my starting dose 4 years ago.

The progesterone part of it first makes me quite hyper (unless that's the peak of estradiol before the combi patch is started) and then I want to eat mountains of chocolate and get very lethargic.

I don't know if estradiol is supposed to peak higher maybe at the start of the cycle to offset those effects from the combined patch.  It bothered me less 4 years ago and I'd have had more oestrogen then I'm guessing.
