Help- crying and anxiety due to duloxetine or low oestrogen?
« on: August 18, 2024, 08:47:20 AM »

Hi All
Just really need your advice as to what you think the cause of my ailments are.
So been on the 80mg patch for around 5 weeks I belive. - went up from 65 as had a huge dip and return of symptoms.
After the crisis team psychiatrist put me uptoo quickly on duloxetine in the space of a week and half it realky made me worse....up to 90. I couldn't stop crying. My team at Broadmoor said he should never have done this as too quick! That's why I'm crying alot.
So went to 60 and had to endure another 7days of crying as it came down
So week one was  all  crying.
Week 2 I got 2 fabulous days.
Week3 another 2 good days.
Then came 8 days straight of brilliant days! I thought at week 4 - the crying side effect must be over.....
Then week 5 -, 2 days of crying .
Week 6 - 1 day of crying
I'm now on day 4, week 7 and I've had the first 3 days of the tears again.
I've had other side effects too like dizziness, blurry vision but I must say these have reduced.
I also was given lorazepam by the GP to take. I called up the other day as I realised I'd been taken this daily for 8 weeks and panicked. He said vicky you're not ready to taper yet, you need it still for your anxiety until it calms.
All the professionals that I've spoken to including the psychiatrist from ward at work say the crying is side effects as it was all messed up at the beginning putting me up too quickly etc....and that he believes it could take a few months to settle.
My question to you ladies is - have you had to wait weeks and weeks for an antidepressant to settle with no side effects?
Do you think this is definitely the duloxetine doing this to me and not my increased patch? As I'm not getting night sweats just a bit of anxiety still especially in the mornings.
I also think that the duloxetine isn't settled and some days its increasing my anxiety and thsts what's making me cry as I've never cried on any patch.
I said to my partner it can't be the patch as why have I has various good days to even not feel like I need lorazepam.  Plus 8 good days back to back.
Hope you ladies can help ....maybe I'm being impatient with the duloxetine?
Thank you all so much xxxx

That's a good estrogen level (I assume that's pmol/L) 😁

I have no personal experience with psychiatric medication but as an observer most of the people I see taking antidepressants don't seem very happy, and my advice would be to decide with your prescribing doctor on a timescale, once you've reached your intended dose, after which if it is working then great but if there's no improvement you come off it.

Hi there,
I am on anti depressants as well as hrt..
I've been on citalopram for 10 months and in the middle of an increase... things are still up and down but over 80% better than before... you have think in terms of months not weeks with these meds as they take a while to settle..you have said you've had some good days which is a really good sign that the medication is working so stick with it...do tube hard on yourself and try and relax as best as possible  and gonna with your day..this is very hard to do sometimes but eventually things will settle. :)
