Lethargy/lack of motivation
« on: August 06, 2024, 06:48:55 PM »

Hi, I'm new here.  I am looking for advice on feeling better, I feel so lethargic and lacking motivation.

I've been taking a magnesium combo but not sure it's helping.  Any advice please?

Are you in perimenopause? I'm asking because I am and, amongst many other symptoms, lethargy, lack of energy and total lack of motivation are a daily thing for me unfortunately, and has been so for the past couple of years especially.

I recently started on HRT and though I've not found my dose yet I have expectations that it'll help me a lot with that. Mainly because recently I had a few days after starting a new cyclical regime when I felt pretty great and almost like myself again, with lots of energy and motivation. I do take several supplements amongst them magnesium as well but I've been taking them for a long time and to be honest none of them helped with motivation or energy, but everyone's different.

I hope others can chime in and give you more ideas or advice.

Estradiol helped me with many things. Energy and motivation? It helped me in that I was able to get out of bed vs. not and successfully perform general duties of daily living (which not to put that down, that was HUGE) but after several months of getting used to that I still didn't really have my "get up and go" back.

I added in testosterone a couple weeks ago and that has helped immensely, it's almost shocking the difference. My levels were zero though, so I had nowhere to go but up.

Hi thanks, I'm not in peri any more.  I'm taking oestrogel but not testosterone, that's something to look into.  I don't know if I can get that on the NHS in the UK.

 :welcomemm:

Peri-menopause can creep up with various symptoms until the last monthly period - = menopause.  We are advised to wait 12 months without a bleed to ensure that we are probably 'there'.  My periods waxed and waned for several years B4 disappearing.

Some find that keeping a mood/symptom/food diary of use as it is possible that what we could eat in our teens, our bodies no longer like as we age  ::) and similar with alcohol  :o.  In recent years I have cut back on ultra processed foods - although we have always eaten healthy choices and DH cooks from scratch most evenings - whereas I was able to eat scones, croissants etc..  Now my body becomes lethargic.

When did U last have a full blood count to include thyroid function and VitD tests?

You can get testosterone on prescription but it usually has to be prescribed by a specialist. You can ask for a referral to an NHS menopause clinic (expect a long wait) or you can go private if you can afford it. Most private practitioners prescribed androfemme which is available on the NHS. How is your libido? If it's  low or zero it's a pretty good indication you're lacking testosterone.
